MSD, you made me cringe with your "Husband" reference. Totally brings up the House Rabbit Society (HR) way of referring to "bonding rabbits" for me. :slap:

I don't have a good relationship with the word "husband," and I was going to make some strange joke about my bunnies are in "common law" relationships...
When you are raising children in a religious household, kids tend to naturally assume that since mommy and daddy are married, and mommy talks about when "you get married and have kids" then the animals naturally "get married" to have kids. Someone had a post about the kids taking out the rabbits for a "wedding." When I first started breeding, having had a very christian upbringing, mating different animals seemed a bit immoral. I got over that after the first dog litter. Since I don't have any kids here, I don't have the problem of explaining why the girls are having babies by different bucks :) Occasionally a kid in my classroom will ask, but I teach in the type of environment where most moms are single never been married, and they have many children by many different men, so it's seldom a problem there.

I read the thread about the "wedding". Wonder if the breeder ever figured out which kit was with which doe.

I was forthright with my Son, when he saw animal babies of any kind. I never humanized it. Animals are different than people. That's why I always rolled my eyes when I started reading about "husband and wife" bunnies. And what was really strange, was this forum frowned on procreation of the bunnies. Really sending a mixed message.

Depending on the age, kids tend to generalize things. Explaining animals versus people depends on the age. Not a conversation I'm going to have with my 6 year old niece. let her think they're married.
Sometimes people are different from animals, animals are usually nicer, and more picky about choosing mates.
I consider it all in fun, though I do have a dog that is stuck on one particular female he was bred to. Even when she's not in season, he won't leave her alone. It was a one night stand, but he seems to think more of it than she does.

I think it depends on how children are raised. I could have a conversation about animals versus people with my Son at 6 years old. And he understood. Now my nieces, well I guess when children grow up with every Disney movie available, I guess real life issue would confuse them.

And do think animals are so much nicer than people. And so did my Son. He wasn't too fond of his cousins. Always tattling and making up stories. I told him don't worry, it's how they are being raised. He learned real fast about future people "who thought they were more important than others."

One thing about teaching other peoples kids--I have learned that I don't have the right to undo how they are being raised, no matter how I feel about it. If I had kids they would never go to a public school, which is the number three reason I don't have kids, I would not want to be a working mom and have other people putting ideas in my kids heads that I didn't agree with.

I hate Disney and always have. There is no such thing as happily ever after. You don't always get what you want at the end.

Anyway, I went through the genetics, and I think I'm going to need a REW doe to get the colors I want. Now looking for a REW.

Can't wait to see what you find. Good luck on your search for your REW.

Poor Z... scarred forever by the HR Society! :( <Sniff!>

Well, I suppose I could change my style... especially since I raise rabbits primarily for meat. How's this for a hypothetical popple announcement:

"XJ312 manufactured seven individually packaged meat units and one possible future production unit today! I am looking forward to about 25 pounds of meat in 12 weeks! :dinner: "

Scarred forever by the HR Society? lol, pulling my leg right MSD? A very strange experience with some narrow minded people might make some think my "cringe" is a hurtful scar. No tears for Z on that experience. Definitely no loss or scar knowimg I'm not part of that Society. Do view rabbits as a business, but also pets and show.

Nice meat rabbit annoucement too. Very professionally put.

So I tried the Denman, think a nine row would have been better, but it worked for the most part. Still had to break out the detangling comb for the bottom. When I said that woolies were bigger than I thought, the jr buck is the size I thought all woolies were. He's probably less than 1 1/2lbs, while the doe is probably 2 1/2. She'd twice as big (or twice as much hair).

Have you got pics of the buck yet? Would love to see him.

Don't remember what his name is. Will get the ped later from her. I know I will because I've done business with her before, and I'll see her next Saturday at a show.

__________ Sun Sep 30, 2012 3:56 pm __________

Sable martin is a whole new thing for me, since it is not a color recognised in any of my current breeds. It took a few hours to wrap my head around it. I know martin is a combo of chin and otter, and sable is a chin gene. If I take the otter gene away, like breeding to a REW who is genetically a self or breeding to a self that carries REW, can I get a siamese sable/

Thought I saw that pic. Sorry, but thanks for reposting. I really like your buck's coloring. Plus love the fullness of his wool. (know it's before combing).

Wishing you all the best with your new breeding program.

Love seeing the color on an adult. I have two sable martens in the nestbox and was wondering how they would turn out.

He's about 16 weeks old. I've been told this is baby fur, and he should be more like the doe when the new coat grows in.
