can rats climb the legs?

Scroll down to rodent control. It says they can climb pipes up to 3" in diameter, and ANY size if within 3" of a wall! They can also jump 3 feet vertically. :x

We have outside cats so any mice, rats, snakes, etc...are pretty much taken care of. I have seen mice but never rats. What we *do* have are raccoon, possum, skunk and loose dogs. As soon as my hubs comes back from his trip, we are going to put up a hot wire fence around the perimeter of the barn.
