I can post some baby pictures of her too. Just wondering what colour she actually is. I was told Opal initially, but she doesn't look like any opal I've googled, and I had two distinct kit colours from the initial pairing, one being actual opal(grey and tan) and this colour.

Her parents are Japanese Harlequin(Jap Harli x Orange) and Blue Vienna (Magpie x Blue Vienna). They produced Japanese harlequin, blue harlequin, chestnut, opal, Siamese sable, smoke pearl, and this colour that I was initially told was Opal, but am now wondering if it's not a chin colour - I saw kit pictures of a black chinchilla rabbit that looked exactly like her.

I have absolutely no clue- but I have to say, she has the cutest, daintiest little feet I have ever seen!

That's my darling Hannah for you, lol.

they don't look so small and dainty from this angle!

Shaded chin VM. :)

Would that be chl or chd for the gene? I'm thinking chl, since that would give me the siamese sable and smoke pearl as well.

I hope dood weighs in, he seems to really know the genetics :)

__________ Tue Jan 08, 2013 4:56 pm __________

Oh my gosh she is cute! :)

Thank you. She's from the very first litter I bred, so I might be a little biased, but she's my favourite. She's got pinched hips, I think, and her mane leaves a lot to be desired, but she's an awesome mum, and she's so friendly and good natured. Her kits are the type that race to see who can get petted first, lol.

I agree, a shaded chin (AKA sable chinchilla), she would have alot more brown in her coat if she was Opal.

genotype A_ B_ cchl_ D_ E_

She could have the dark shaded gene and be just a chinchilla as well but none of her siblings sound like they were. If there were some seals in the litter, I might be suspicious.

Can you tell us what coloured kits she has had, and what the buck and his parents were.

She had 3 with her full brother(I didn't breed them, she was returned to me pregnant, because I had mis-sexed the buck :(). He is a blue harlequin vienna. They were BEW, Opal(with the tan) vienna, and Blue vienna.

She has a bunch now, but they're broken with so little colour it's hard to tell what any is except a few blacks, and a harlequin. The father was tri, no idea about his parents.

That's what I was told was a smoked pearl. Full brother to Hannah

That's what I was told was a siamese sable.

Thanks Dood :)

What would I get if I bred her to a Sable Point buck?

Really? I did not know that. Do all rabbits with shaded have red hued eyes?

That means I'll never get a clean BEW from these guys.

I believe that they do.. I haven't owned many, but I have heard they do. My sable point buck does z bit when I put the flash on my camera. I find it very noticeable in my siamese sable, his eyes go bright red with the flash and at certain angles you can see it clearly. A regular chin shouldn't have red glare to the eyes. Also, if you see the brown on her and a bit of a faded color, that is also a big sign of being shaded chin.

Oh.. she is also cute. hehe. Looks like she has loads of personality.

Well, regardless if she can produce a showable baby or not, I'm still keeping her around. She's my favourite, lol. A big pain in the butt, but so smart and good natured. Being of good attitude is a BIG THING in my rabbitry right now.

Her dad has a red glare in his eyes when photographed, but I've always thought he was just plain old blue. Could I be wrong about him?

With his new information I believe she is actually an agouti version of her brother called a smoke pearl chin (which is a fancy way of saying blue shaded chinchilla)and she carries the light chinchilla gene rather than the dark, I can also fill in a few more blanks in her genotype.

With a genotype of 'Aa B_ cchl_ dd E_ Vv'

Oh, this makes my head hurt. So she's a smoke pearl chin. Can I just call her a blue chin? I'll take a few fresh photos of her tonight if that would help?

I'm just wondering what I can expect if I breed her to a sable point, or back to her father.

A blue chin carries the dark chin gene, a blue sable chin carries the light, so you shouldn't call her a blue chin.

Crossed with a sable point ( aa B_ cchl_ D_ ee) will give you sable points, and maybe seals, siamese sables, torts, sable chinchilla, black, chestnut, and fawn among others since we don't have all the blanks filled out.

What colour is her father?

Well, I thought blue, but his eyes are red hued, and I apparently suck at picking out colours, so you tell me, lol.

His mother was magpie. His father was "exactly like him".

I think some regular bunnies do have red to the eyes, but it's most noticeable on the shaded ones (hers were so bright that I thought "shaded chin" immediately). She doesn't look dilute to me.

Your buck does look blue, but could he be blue seal? Or blue self chin? I don't know anything about magpies.

Yes, I would say he is blue and not shaded. Blue rabbits have 'wonky' eyes as well. I have blue chinchillas and they show a creepy eye glare with flash photography.

If you breed her to her father you will only get kits that are blue. There could be self blue, blue shaded like mom, blue tort, blue chestnut, blue vienna marked and a 25% chance of BEW. He may carry japanese harlequin from his moms side and there could be others depending on what is in the blank spots in their genotypes.

__________ Wed Jan 09, 2013 8:53 am __________

The BEW kits will not have the desired 'sky blue' eye but have more of a purple cast because they are really blue under the white coat, you get the same purplish eyes if you have a chocolate BEW. If you breed the kits to a Vienna marked who does not carry blue, half the kits will be BEW with the sky colored eye. If he does carry blue then some of the BEW's will get the purple eyes.

So would I be best to breed him to a solid non-dilute, and take a non-dilute vienna from that breeding to breed to another non-dilute vienna?

I have Crystal, she's a sable point vienna. Is she going to give me the same red hued problem if I breed her to Dobby? How about if I breed her to a non-dilute vienna?

I was really wanting to put some BEW Lionheads on the show table this year, but if I'm not able to use any of the buns that I have now, then I won't be able to.
