Hi Evan! Welcome to RT!

I can't answer your color question, but that is a cute little rabbit. :)

Its a blue martin..unless my monitor is off and then its a black lol however i do see a lot of what appear to be scattered white hairs? hard to say it could just be from the flash.

A marten with weird lionhead hair making the color black in some areas and marten looking in other areas. The length of hair on a rabbit can greatly change the color you see because bars of color on the hair can get added or left out. It will probably shed out to be a bit smoother in color.

I vote for chinchilla. Would be helpful to see a pic of the hair blown open to check for ring. The black ear lacing is present.

We just picked her up a while ago and got the black one as well....could not resist. She is much darker in person I will post pics tomorrow.

Looks like sable chinchilla double mane lion head. Ear lacing should be black instead of white so maybe its martinized, have seen it on himis and what not before. I've had them in litters as well (have squirrel and black chin vms a lot). Here's a link to a clear picture of another sable chin lion (not mine but shows coloring really well)

What exactly do you mean by sable chinchilla? Light chinchilla? There is the chin gene chd and the sable gene chl. Sometimes the sable gene gets called light chin when put with agouti.

The darker coat and throat marking really makes me think marten.

I never guess at colors any more with my mixed up mess.

I have two 8 week old kits that look almost like sables and have a "lilac" cast. Beautiful kits. Their grandmother looked the same and turned out to be a "gray agouti" when she matured. I have another two that look sort of like a "tan" and I think they will end up being sort of a solid beige. I have one that looks like an "orange-agouti" and I think she will turn out to be red with black guard hairs.

I have a pure blue solid buck that gets reddish hair every summer mixed in the blue, which then sheds in the Fall. and he turns blue again. I would ask you genetics people about all of this... but I think the gene mix would probably drive someone nuts. :?

I have had some terrific colored kits.... I wish I could have them keep the coloration when they are adults.

Those of you that have pure-bred rabbits sure have an advantaged in this.

I think its the same as what you're saying akane. Its just not the same name as I was shown/used to seeing. I know that's a common thing for different breeds on some colors. I think same color needs same name in all breeds to not be as confusing some times.

A_ B_ cch1_ D_ E_ is sable chinchilla, I've seen some call it a shagouti. I *think* its used as (shagouti) well when referring to seal chinchilla (A_B_cchlcchlD_E )and smoke pearl chinchillas (A_B_cchl_ddE_)as well which can crop up in certain areas a lot. I've seen a couple times referred to as siamese sable chins or siamese smoke chins as well. If wrong, please explain as to why so I can understand.

Sorry it took so long her are more pics. The blown fur is the fur on her back, the side fur has no bands and is a solid color through out.
