okay so I bought a new doe...and well I was so excited to finally find a second fuzzy lop that I didn't check her as well as I should have I guess...I had a lot of problems finding one and I still dont have a buck @[email protected] I was told she is bred so she should have lil ones shortly...thing is she has crusts that are whiteish near her eyes,,,none on her paws or her nose and her eyes dont seem to be seeping (she is quarantined so she wont pass it if she does) and she hasn't sneezed even once that i have heard...is there any thing that mimics that symptom that isnt pasturella? could it have been stress or allergies? if it is would the kits be born with it or could I foster them out to keep them safe? I'd hate for it to be a total lose since it has been almost a year since getting my first fuzzy and it was so hard to get a second one :/ I was hopeing to keep a buck from her to finally have a trio

UPDATE : ok so I got the doe meds and she seems to be doing ok...but before I noticed her problem I had her in quarantine...but I only had one room set for that...and well my wheezing new buck was already in there (I don't think it was the kitty litter he just has a malformed sinus cavity or something he wiggles his nose weird when he breathes deep and that's when he wheezes..kinda a whistle sound o_O but other then that he is happy so seems ok) well since I notice the third day they were roomed together I was kicking myself thinking I'd doomed the buck since the doe was sick...but since its so contagious I thought if he doesn't show signs then maybe it is just an eye infection...its been over a week and he seems completely healthy . I as told to watch her eyes to see how fast stuff accumulates...it took about two days till the white crystals are really noticeable at all and how much seems to be getting less as time passes...so maybe its dried tears crystallizing and not pasterella after all? would the meds for pasterella hurt her if she doesn't have pasteralla after all ? any opinions?

Okay,, Clean her face up--Fuzzy faced animals tend to get irritated eyes which can cause eye boogers. Watch to see how fast the gunk accumulates.

You can, to be on the safe side, give a shot of the recommended dose of tetracycline once a week until the kits are weaned, then dose the kits. (This is a way to produce 'clean' stock from affected)

no, the drugs won't *hurt* her- BUT-- remember that drugs do hang around..

I was looking real close at one of my rabbits' eyes last night-- and even though he is not a 'woolly' breed, there is a little bit of gunk. He also has white flakes on the surface of his coat-- close exam-- just dry skin... So, up his water intake, and make sure there is not a lot of airborne dust potential in the shed when I get him back out there..

How is the ventilation in the room where you quarantine your rabbits? Are there ammonia smells? Do you use scented products such as perfume, air freshener, cleansers etc.? Does anyone smoke in the house? All these things and more can cause weepy eyes.

Edited to add:
Do you use pine or cedar shavings as litter? Rabbits can be sensitive to pine and cedar can actually cause serious health problems.

the two of them are in a room alone...well its where i keep my books >.> ...I clean their cages regularly and it has pretty good ventilation...I'm allergic to bleach so I don't tend to use harsh chemical cleaners...there are smokers here but none smoke in that room...I don't use any wood shavings...I think her previous owner might have had her in less then great conditions and that may have caused the issues and it could explain why she has been improving gradually while in my care...if she was in wood shavings there how long do you think it might take for the effects to wear off ?
