Guess there is a first time for everything...

A kit...litter of one... was doing fine...close to a week old. Checked last night and strong, wiggling around. This morning it was dead. The hay in the nest had wrapped around its neck and strangled it.

Never to our knowledge has that happened before. I could almost comprehend it if it was the soft, fine hay... but this was more Straw like. We've been using it for nest material for a while now with no issues.

Now there is one more thing to keep track of !

I've never heard of hay strangling a kit before, so hopefully it isn't something that happens very often.

I certainly hope it was just a freak happenstance ! Never did i even "think" that hay could do that.
