they are just a bit expensive, I can get some (borrowed) for my next cages, there is a guy in the local club who did something with them either in earth retention or material handling. I forget what they are called, but they are basically J clips
 
Bumping this post, as I think some would benefit from my chronicle of Noob-ness! LOL!
 
Cage building is a topic that doesn't get as much attention as it deserves. It's a basic for all small animal and bird operations. Thanks for this thread.
 
I remember very clearly building my first cage (after all it was only about 3 months ago), picking up jaggers constantly, a crappy finished look, and a cloud of F-bombs that still lingers over the greater Kalispell area
 
I don't mind the cutting or the clips. What I find tedious is going over the finished cage and bending down all the loose wires so they don't snag everything or tear you up.
