Hello. Lately I have been researching about what outher doe should I get for my mini colony. In general I don't like chesnut as a colour, I don't know why, they are just not my cup of tea. Besides Fawn, who is fawn, I would like to get another doe that will produce colourful babies with Rubin, my NZR buck. I sortof like Croatian Big Silver Marten (the only Croatian rabbit breed). It's basically a large breed (not giant) that is allowed in black, chocolate or blue with silver. There also seems to be th lighter variation with dark tan, something I met never before until I became aware of this breed. Now, I need some help with the at gene since I can't really figure out how it works. Thanks in advance.

Here you can get an idea of what the breed looks like:

The first pic is a genetic silver marten = at_ B_ cchd_ D_ E_

The second is a sallander marten = at_ B_ cchd_ D_ ee and Gorgeous !!!!

Since Fawn and your red buck are A_ B_ C_ D_ ee the sallander marten would be a better breeding choice if you don't like chestnuts (A_ B_ C_ D_ E_)

Depending on the genetics of Fawn and your red buck you might just get fawns in the first generation but if you keep some of these kits to breed back to the sallander you will start to get

fawn A_ B_ C_ D_ ee

Torted Otters/fox = ata B_ C_ D_ ee

torts = aa B_ C_ D_ ee

frosty =A_ B_ cchd_ D_ ee

sallander martens =at_ B_ cchd D_ ee

sallander = aa B_ cchd D_ ee

You will never get a chestnut but REW eyed white or himilayan may appear if the rabbits secretly carries these genes.

Thanks Dood. After all day of researching online, I finally found this forum thread (http://svijet-ljubimaca.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=410583). There is a breeder that breeds all of the colours and it's only 1 and a half hour drive from where I live. Seems like my Rusty Pocket Rabbitry is gonna get bigger soon :)

__________ Mon Jul 14, 2014 2:50 pm __________

Also, what's there trigger that causes red tan over usual creamy otter? I get it that cchd causes marten.

Tan have two recessive wideband genes - "ww" - (as do red NZ with red bellies) while otters (and fawns) carry the dominant normal band width - "W_"
