Hello,
Just signed up to the forum, hoping to get some help. I've recently gotten into genetics wih my rabbits and I'm trying to find a genetic code for my 'sooty fawn' rex doe. I've also heard that color described as a black tort, but she doesn't look like any black tort pic I've seen. She's too dark. Her points are black, and her body is fawn, but she has chocolate ticking on her hairs that makes her overall color appear like a dark chocolate Easter bunny with shaded points. (Well, she did come with the name Cadbury). Anywho, if any of you out there can help me confirm or identify her color and help me with a genotype I'd really appreciate it. I just got into Rex and I'm quickly learning they're a very long ways off of my French Angoras!

Thank you!!

Do you think? She does have the fawn under color underneath the ticking. And her belly is a medium gray with white under color. Do you know what the color genotype is for that? The only thing I've known for sure is that she carries the Vienna gene and she's thrown torts. I haven't bred her yet but that's what her last litter mainly consisted of, torts with white nose spots, but then again that tort thing could mean she's just hiding an extension gene in there. Thanks for helping out!

I just did a google search and Siamese seal is looking very promising!

Do you mean sun burned as in like sun bleached? She was kept in a rabbit shed her whole life so far, and her color hasn't bleached out any since I've brought her home a month ago. ( my buns do live outside ).

She looks like a sable, a seal with one ch or c gene. That is, aa B_ cchl and ch or c D_ E_ enen VV.

She'd have to be an older sable. Luckily for you, sable is an accepted color in Rex. She actually has pretty good coloration, too. If she is, in fact, sable. She have a pedigree?

Yes, she does have a pedigree. I got the rex trio as a meat group originally, but I have had a lot of people ask about my Angoras too for show. Maybe I should look into that.

She isn't that old, about a year and a half, but thank you for the genotype!

:yeahthat: but I would add non extension, since she's had torts, and Vienna, since she is a carrier

= aa B_ (cchl ch) OR (cchl c) D_ Ee enen Vv

She could be 'cchl cchl' if she is a sun bleached seal.

XD Thank you, Dood. I was a bit wonky last night. Yeah, that's a sun-bleached seal by the looks of it, actually. o_O I mean, no back shading, for one. More rusty than sepia. -needs new glasses-

I have so many seals and sables born here it's not even funny :?

Here's a picture of a sable Mini Lop:

The seal has brown under tones to the black.

With the Mini Lop breed there is no such thing as siamese sables though, just sables.

Just Sable in Rex as well. Siamese sable in Mini Rex.

Not sun bleached, Seals are supposed to look that way.

__________ Tue Jul 16, 2013 11:34 am __________

I'm really curious where these buns came from. It took me a year and a half to get Seal Rex, and you got one in a meat trio? They are very uncommon.

I got her from breeder in Lyons, Co. Her rabbitries name is Red House Rex. I didn't see any other rabbits with the same color on them, and the reason she let her go was because she throws Vienna, which she said aren't show able in the Rex groups. I also got a beautiful broken castor buck from her, but he's got the wide band gene so he's not show quality either. Can't wait to breed the two together :)

__________ Tue Jul 16, 2013 12:27 pm __________

And thank you for the pics Peach, those are helpful

Vienna isn't showable in Rex, but blue-eyed white--two Vienna genes--is in Mini Rex. If you bred her to an obviously Vienna son, you might get some BEWs. ;) For your info if you ever wanted to add on Mini Rex. Sadly I'm pretty certain REW is the only white accepted in standard Rex.

Has siamese sable been recently accepted in mini rex? My current Standard of perfection shows sable point and seal as recognized colors, but not siamese sable.

Sorry, that should have said Sable in Rex, Sable in Mini Rex, which is the same as Siamese Sable in other breeds ( I used to have hollands as well).

I should not try typing in a room with no AC on a heat index day.

Wide band Castor is not a big problem, it's useful to correct Castors with heavy black surface color, which is most of the Rex Castors on the table now a days, and usually indicates that you have a Castor that will produce Reds. Seal Vienna carrier and a wide band Castor will yield some interesting colors down the road.

Coolio. Can't wait to see. And, yes. BEWs are just lovely. They need to be added into Rex, am I right? Love 'em to death. They also don't make people flip like the ruby-eyed whites, even if I love those as well. XD
