My son showed 2 of his mini rexes today! He didnt do to bad. He got 3rd in variaty with his broken chocolate doe. Some of the judges comments were; good head ears and type, lacking in hindquarters, and fur is too soft and rusty. Didnt know fur could be too soft :hmm: With his black buck he got BOSV comments were; narrow in the head, good ears little long in the midsection, good hindquarters nice depth?, excellent fur density and condition. Not sure exactly what all that ment but we are learning.

Oh and a good thing to remember for the next show... DO NOT bring extra money, you end up coming home with an extra rabbit!

Congrats! My first show brought me more questions than answers too, it seems! Do tell about your new addition :p

Congratulations on your Son's first showing. Completely different world, I'd would believe, once you put your rabbit on the table. Definitely sounds like a good, fun learning experience. And definitely do tell about the new addition.

Congrats to your son. Didn't know a Rex could be too soft. I'd like to know what that meant too. Maybe the judge meant the fur didn't have enough weight, you should be able to rub it in the opposite direction and it stays that way when the coat is prime. Sounds like you need to breed that doe to that buck, to give some more hindquarters to her offspring, improve ears and fur and shorten the midsection. They seem to complement each other as a breeding pair, if the judges comments are correct.

The doe with the soft fur is a senior, but she had babies during the summer and it is finally grown back, maybe that was why it was too soft, oh and she was also molting pretty bad. I really wanted to take her daughter, I think she looks nicer than her mom, definitly has better fur, but I couldnt find anyone to tatoo her. Time to invest in my own tatoo system I guess.

What really amazes me is how the judge can get the rabbits to pose for them! My son and I both practice posing them but just cant seem to get them to cooperate like the judge does. Also do all judges speak so quietly? I was standing behind my son at the table and still had a hard time hearing him.

Me too! It's unbelievable. They set them up so quickly, too.
