It the Siamese Sable Standard Rex Showable color or NO?

My husband loves the standard Rex and Especially the siamese sable. But don't want to go to all the trouble to hunt them down if they arent showable. I hoped he would like the Mini Satin but Nope!!

There is no Siamese Sable in Standard Rex officially. I've never seen it or heard of anyone having any unofficially either. There is sable in Standards, I'm getting some from Convention.

Well that takes care of that. He wants the color so he has decided on the Satins. :) Sounds good to me.

That is where he got it from but he wants a standard size rabbit. I wish they would add it to the standard rex.

It's in the gene pool with the right combinations. You could try breeding up, but that dwarf gene is persistent.

Tell him to take a serious look at the mini-satins' pedigrees prior to buying anything. What I'd compel him to look for specifically is blue or blue tort in the ancestry. I know I've brought that up and even beaten it to death a few times already, but he will have a very difficult time getting rid of any blue coat anomalies once it is in there, and the breeders who are knocking themselves out bringing the blue torts into that breed standard are going to be unpleasantly surprised at what it does to their bloodlines down the road as far as color goes.

Is this what you are looking for? The first picture or the one on the bottom, second to the right.

Top picture. :) So pretty.

__________ Wed Oct 17, 2012 7:08 am __________

It sure is beautiful. But we want some thing showable. He prefers rex but would go satin but not mini satin. He wants a full size commercial type.

Yeah. As far as I can think, Satins would be the only full sized breed that has Sable points.

It might also be possible to get an american sable that is a biton the lighter side. I've seen them. But American Sables are just about as hard to find as anything.

__________ Wed Oct 17, 2012 3:47 pm __________

or breed a sable to a tort.

While not generally considered a meat rabbit, English lops come in the color sable point. Very, very cute.
