I want to show my English Angora and Silver Fox does, but to grand, one leg has to be as a senior. Yet, for best breeding, I have found that does should be bred at 6-8 months and with the scarcity of shows in my available driving distance, I need to breed in between shows rather than hold off breeding. If it was simply a matter of a couple of weeks, then I would have no problem with holding off on the breeding, but in my case, it can be several months between sanctioned shows.

I have seen this discussion on other forums and several folks were wondering why there wasn't a brood doe class just for addressing this issue :D

Other than that, are there any breeds that it is "acceptable" to show brood does?

Some of the small to tiny breeds ... the does don't seem to get as "flabby" after a litter... and go on with show careers. It seems that most of the bigger breeds don't come back into condition quite as well as before being bred. YMMV of course.

Thanks ... I guess I'll just have to try one and see how it goes ... I have a runout pen for the does and they are nice solid does even after kindling with the exception of the mammary glands, and those go down at the end of 3 weeks when I wean.

It all depends on who else enters, I guess. Maybe we can try to set a trend? I would love to get a third leg on my REW SA brood doe

It diffidently depends on breed. Also size of litter and how quickly she gets back in condition too. If the breed is high in type, fur and condition she may have a harder time doing well in shows.

Yep, but you'll never know until you try. I have a Rex doe that doesn't even look like she's had a litter and she's had two. Now if I could only get a keeper from her, then perhaps that would be genetic?
