I lived in Richmond for 6 years and loved it there. My ex still lives there so the kids go there to visit him. In two weekends, I'll be in RVA for a party with friends. It happens to be the same weekend as a rabbit show. Talk about last minute considerations.... I'm actually entertaining the idea of maybe entering a rabbit.

But I know NOTHING about showing! Am I nuts???? Any links for Showing Rabbits for Dummies??

Nothing to it. Email or phone in or snail mail your entry and you're on your way. I believe the snail mail entry deadline was yesterday though. So to avoid a higher fee you'd need to either email or call in. Richmond has a payment scheme different from most shows I've attended and in my mind the fees or a little higher than what I'm used to paying. Plenty of folks should be there too lend you a hand in learning the lay of the land. Show up with you rabbit in tow, visit the registration desk to pay and/or verify they have the correct rabbit on their paperwork. Look around to find the table that your breed will be show on. There's normally a list behind the judging tables listing the breeds and the order in which they will be shown. When your breed is up, your rabbit will be shown in whatever class its in. For example, I show Tans and they are show in color order from dilute to dense, i.e. lilac, blue, chocolate, black. Within each class they're shown in age order sr buck, sr does, jr bucks, jr does. The best of each class is held back and competes for best of breed with the others. The best of breed goes up at the end of the show to compete for Best in Show. Thats quick, but I gotta get to work!

Go for it! I think it will be a fun experience for you. Lastfling quickly put down some good info (have a safe trip to work Lastfling). And I have no doubt you will get a lot of help when you get there, and meet some very nice people.

If you decide to go, have fun and good luck!

I like to educate myself and this will definitely be a learning experience. But before I commit... what should I expect? I have a lot of commitments while I'm in Richmond. Is it okay to leave the rabbits? Do I need to take it home with me every night? Do I need to provide a cage? And what does "fur" mean on the entry card?? I told you I was clueless! LOL

At the shows I've been to here, the rabbits stay in their carriers at the show venue, you'll need a water bottle and most of the people around here feed rolled oats at the show. 'Fur' is the fur class, a separate entry from the show table.
