Ineresting. I knew a sable would carry REW if the parent was a rew or if one parent carried it and passed it on to the offspring. I heard sables carried either REW or Pointed White as a given on their c locus but shouldn't the c locus be taken up by the shaded gene since they are sable? I'm confused any good genetic guides?

Sables can have two sable genes (= cchl cchl) but these rabbits are *usually* darker and called seal, but this is not always the case and it is not a guarantee that a lighter sable carries himilayan (= cchl ch) or REW (= cchl c)

Only Himalayan (ch) or REW (c) as they are recessive to sable (cchl)

Full colour (C cchl) and dark shaded/chinchilla (cchd cchl) are dominant to sable and the rabbit would be a self black or a self chinchilla (that looks like a self black but probably with grey eyes) respectively

I don't know what my Siamese Sable JW carry on the other locus, they are much lighter than my Seal, and still have yet to produce a REW or a Pointed white in many a litter. I can only assume REW, since I haven't has any Seals born when bred to a Seal or any PW born when bred to a PW.

My Sable Rex most definitely carries Cal, as one of his parents was Cal, but he is dark. As Dood said, dark could just be modifiers, not necessarily a sign of 2 sable genes.
