It's funny....when I don't have anything or much to sell, I tend to be showing my juniors that I'm taking for comments and then do alright and nobody wants to buy the 1 or 2 I have for sale.

When I have a great showing day, pick up a lot of 1st and what not....people want to buy but I brought nothing.

it's a vicious cycle. Usually the only things that move well around here are ND, Hollands, Mini Rex, and Lionheads.....otherwise, people over look my breed. People usually want my pet quality $30 rabbits to be pedigreed though....nobody wants to pay the extra $20 for what I consider a nice show prospect. Mines usually are bought in other states. Market in the South is fickle.

^^^^^What Peach just said^^^^^

The majority of people contacting me for rabbits generally want reds, but at the shows I go to with reds that I'm willing to sell, I get very little action on. The moment I don't show up with any is when a half dozen (or more) people are going to approach me in need of them.

Something which drives me crazy is when people approach me at certain times of the year for rabbits (usually a month of so ahead of the spring 4-H/FFA youth show in Little Rock, or just ahead of state and county fair entry deadlines in the late summer or early fall) wanting to buy a satin. They don't want to pay good money for anything, just something they can put up on the show table, and you generally can read right through it if you're paying attention to what they're saying. What it usually amounts to is they want a day or 2 off from school for the events, and when it's over, they're busy trying to offload it. And of course, when they're buying it, they want "the 4H discount". I don't mind helping out breeders who are genuinely interested in getting started in maintaining legitimate meat and breeding programs, but I refuse to take someone seriously when they're obviously doing it for the instant gratification they get from the day they spend away from the classrooms. Sad thing, that is so often being taught and encouraged anymore.

We have brought 'extra' stock along because someone contacted us and wanted to see the rabbits. Then no-one approaches us about the rabbits. . But our breed is not a "fancy" type... so i rarely bring extras any more....

As Satins Rule said... there are Certain times of the year that rabbits seem to sell well... Right now there is a Humongous feeding frenzy before Convention going on. People are searching for That perfect rabbit... and breeders are selling anything and everything...it is actually sort of funny to watch on certain FB groups.... ;)

I've actually only brought rabbits to sell once at a show. I think we brought about 12 to sell, mostly Mini Rex, and a couple Jersey Woolies.
Amazingly by the end of the day all of them sold! I got between $25-45 for all of them. They were all pedigreed.
I did have to give one little "ugly" black Mini Rex baby away only $15, but at least we went home with 12 empty holes!!
Around here it seems rabbits usually sell pretty well at shows, as long as they are reasonably priced and it does help if they are one of the popular breeds.

Pretty much the same as Peach, and the others. I have larger breeds, except the JW, and most people want the small ones, and skip over the JW because of the wool. I'm not well enough known in the other breeds yet for other breeders to buy my buns. Rex, SF and Angoras seem to be breeds where breeders buy from each other, and breed for themselves. I can't say I've bought another Wooly since I've started breeding my own and placing high on the table.
