Here's a thought: Why not just breed rabbits with a white toenail to a variety that CAN have a white toenail? Such as REW and Broken.

Hah! I was thinking that yesterday! The down side is it will just be a hidden fault, and could still show up in solid colored rabbits... I have Rex and usually get mixed litters.

I do have both rew and broken. Maybe I will only use her for those lines. Hmm she is a beautiful and very good natured doe. no other rabbits in her line seem to have this problem. Maybe it will breed out in the second generation.

OK, I don't see any photos of nekkid EAs, so here's my buck from last july :D

For any newbies to the showrooms who may be on here, please understand that there is a difference between a fault and a DQ.

DQ's normally render a rabbit ineligible for competition or placement within any class.

Faults are an abnormality or an imperfection which are serious enough to separate an animal from the rest of the rabbits it's competing against, but not severe enough to prevent it from being placed.

Many will argue that all DQ's are permanent and uncorrectable. I challenge such people to explain why a Californian, Cal Rex, Cal Satin, etc. will get DQ'd for patches of smut on the usable portion of their pelt, yet just a few weeks into the warmer season of the year, that same rabbit will no longer display what they were DQ'd for a few weeks earlier. It's yet another example (along with that of the mismatched toenail which can be affected by weather as mentioned earlier) of how it can be corrected over time. The obvious answer is that it's seasonal, and not therefore permanent.

Used to be that there was a difference between an elimination and a DQ, and it behoved a judge to know and understand why (trust me, some did NOT). Why it ever changed is anyone's guess.
