So at a show earlier this year, I had my Champagne buck registered. They clamped the ear, brushed it with ink, and I didn't do anything to the ear afterwards thinking that if I wiped the ink away, it might ruin the tattoo.

I just double checked yesterday to make sure everybody's tattoos are nice and clear (hooray upcoming show soon) and noticed........the R isn't there. Like...AT ALL. Anywhere.

Uhm, what do I do? Bring a copy of his pedigree and his registration certificate and see if they'll re-do it at the show? Anyone else ever have this issue?

Oh dear. :(

I haven't had a bun registered yet, so I don't know. But I am sure a Registrar would redo the tattoo as long as he is still free from DQ's- so guard him well and don't let him get some injury that will cause a white mark!

Thanks, MSD, good point. Hadn't thought of that! He's a fatty, lol. Well not really, he's not FAT, he's just BIG, and when registered he was about two ounces under the max-weight for his breed, so.........methinks I'll skip his breakfast the day of the show and give it to him AFTER I see a registrar about the missing R, just in case they want to weigh him, LOL.

If you've got the paperwork and received the certificate from ARBA the tattoo shouldn't be a big deal I wouldn't think. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong. Have you tried taking a flashlight and backlighting the ear with it to see if the tat shows? An alternative would be to tattoo the registration number in the ear yourself -- wouldn't it??

I had this happen too
but since I wasn't showing the rabbit any longer (once they get their 3rd legs I feel it is only " :nana: :nana: my rabbit is better then your's" syndrome) I didn't bother the registeor about it.

Once You have the registration papers on the rabbit.... It really does not matter if the circle R is readable or not. It was done at the time of registration so it is good. When being shown... the judges should not be looking in That ear... just the one with the individual ear ##.

( i've run across so many registrars who have a hard time doing that tattoo !... and it rarely stays. The flashlight behind the ear trick Usually shows that "something" was in the ear.)

LOL awesome, thanks guys. Makes me feel better!!! :) There is SOMETHING there...like, a "C" shape of dots, I presume the outer ring, but...that's all, LOL, and the "C" is only visible if you are REALLY lookin'.

Once you have the registration certificate, the R is really not necessary.

If it's important to you for it to be there, I'm confident that a registrar will re-do it for you, however, not all of them have the circle R tattoo, so be careful who you pick to replace it.

What do they do if they don't have the circle-R tattoo clamp?

"technically" a Registrar is Supposed to have the circle R. If not... they are supposed to put the Registration number in the ear. Those are the two options that ARBA permits.

( having said that... i've seen a great many Registrars using the Pen to put the circle R in the ear... that is not actually permitted by the rules... but no-one seems to have a fuss... so it continues.... )

....................huh.

I think I'd actually prefer the reg. # in the ear instead of the circle-R, lol. Is it okay to request that? :)

Indeed You may request the number.

( Just, judging from the squeamishness of so many of the younger Registrars in doing Any tattoo... i don't know if they would do it. :pancake: )
