just an interesting article..... I am currently using the "bicaine" form of subcutaneous injectable penicillin to treat a doe suffering from conjunctivitis that has not responded to ophthalmic drops. Pastuerella is a common cause of eye infections and facial abscesses in rabbits, this organism is susceptible to the penicillin G found in the sub-Q form of injectable penicillin. However, I am not a veterinarian and have chosen this treatment option above culling to doe.

I am on an information search for more literature regarding the use of injectable penicillin in rabbits. I am currently using a brand formulated for cattle, with a dosage titration based on live weight of the rabbit I am treating.

The kind I used is indicated for cattle, sheep, swine, and horses. It's intended to be IM, but I used it Sub-Q.

This was on a buck with a weepy eye. 5 days, one injection per day, 1/4cc (300,000 strength). Worked great, no recurrence so far (it's been 6 months at least).

The bicillin I am using right now is actually formulated for subcutaneous injection "for beef cattle". I originally added it to my farm fridge vet kit to treat cats and dogs, because sub-Q is so much easier to give these animals than I.M. I have the I.M. formula for the horses, goats and llamas.
