I noticed rust on the inside of my new galvanized metal poultry waterer that has been used all winter on a heater for the colony. Then I realized I've been putting acv in it lately (which breeding has suddenly increased). Oops. I forgot vinegar removes galvanizing including apple cider vinegar. Luckily winter is almost over and I don't think everyone needs acv anymore so I'll just fix as best as possible and designate that waterer for the growout pen and get a new o-ring for the plastic one. Also luckily it turns out the new aluminum ends for 2 liter pop bottles I ordered to go on the new brood doe pens does not react with vinegar due to an oxidized layer on the outside of aluminum. Yay I'm safe to use it there.
Just don't tell my husband I damaged a $60 giant metal waterer in one season.
