Yeah, not an easy one to do at all, Kyle. :( But take comfort in knowing that you did the right thing not to let him drag on longer. Poor old boy... but he had a great life with you and an easy and quick end.

I'm so sorry, Kyle... you obviously made the right decision to dispatch him. Poor bun, it sounds like he was going downhill fast!

(Also, this is a horrible place to say this, but "irregardless" is nonstandard, and a double negative. :) )

I have to laugh, my closest pal just blew up at me the other day. "YOU ARE A FORMER ENGLISH MAJOR, STOP USING THAT WORD!!! IT DOESN'T TECHNICALLY EVEN EXIST!" And then we ate pie. It's a bad habit of mine, lol.

I'm sorry too but chronic pain is unacceptable. My dad was pretty broken up too, Boss was his "new" favorite (since I culled his previous favorite for production issues this Spring) but he understood. :( He tried to brush it off ("Well, he WAS just a rabbit you know") but then I caught him out petting Boss's kits, in an effort to self soothe. There's a mushy center in that hardened exterior. :p

I'm honestly feeling a little better about it today. I'll never, ever forget that old boy, but everyone goes eventually.

Darn, Kyle...I'm sorry. That's a hard thing to do. Sounds like your dad is taking some solace in the babies, always a good thing. I hope the rest of your week is doubly blessed in a good way.

Sorry about Boss :( I think it's been a bad year for herd bucks. I was able to get Tornado back from woolblock but it seems you have to catch it early or not it's too late. I'm glad you have babies from him. I hope he sired you some future kick butt babies :)

 That is the only reason I said anything at all -- I knew you were an English major!

I'm with your pal. If you'd been here, and said that, I'd have :chair: :annihilate: ...and then we'd have eaten pie. Or, more probably, fresh-baked bread :p while you recovered from your bruises.

Yeah... if it's something they're recovering from, that's one thing, but to let a critter live in constant pain... it's not being a good steward of what you have taken into your care.

Aw... your dad is sweet! Maybe he can help pick Boss' replacement from that litter. :D

There ARE two buck kits...when time comes to choose I'll "ask his opinion." ;) Been mulling over my cage space...every time I contemplate selling out of Champagnes I just can't bring myself to, they're just awesome...and when I mentioned it to my dad, he said "NO, NOT THE FRENCHIES!!!" He latched onto the "from the Champagne province" part and calls them "Frenchies."

Should have seen him ordering me to go get this doe and that kit to show his girlfriend. I think he likes the rabbits a lot more than he's willing to admit. In fact today he said he wants to go to a show sometime. Rabbitosis, maybe?

Might be a good thing, I can hand him the Champagnes and have him put them on the table. :)

Thanks. I'll miss that big chunky-butt. :( As to kits tough, I think so. :) His kits are growing SO fast, not even weaned and they're already as big as their foster-mom!!!

Thanks, it was kind of awful at the time. Gonna have a photo of Boss blown up and printed off so I can frame it though...will hang right next to my ARBA member certificate thing as my first herdsire.

Oh, my... He's got it pretty bad! Next thing you know, you'll come home from school one day and the rabbitry will have doubled in size!

I am so sorry about your buck but you are right in not letting him suffer. You and I both had to put down our champagne bucks this week. Wish you were closer I would be making arrangements to get a buck from you. I never got a chance to get a litter sired by Maurise. On the cool side is your Dad. Sounds like he is catching rabbitosis. Get him to a rabbit show quick and start hinting about him needing some New Champagnes to start his rabbitry. Good job on infecting your Dad.

REALLY sorry, seems like the best ones have just been expiring left and right. :(

If you were closer I'd give the other buck to you as a gift. :(

Maybe someday when the kids are grown I will. I plan to sell the house in about 6-8 years. Get in my van and drive till I find home. Right now I am leaning towards Nevada and Texas.

Demamma, we have a nice young Champagne buck kit here in Reno that we keep finding excuses not to butcher quite yet (chief among them is that his sire is still plenty young and vigorous, and less related to the does than the young one is)... So come on out and scout northern Nevada, go back with a replacement buck!

But seriously, sorry to hear about your loss, Kyle. I hope I will act as quickly to end the pain of my foundation animals when the time comes...

Jessil are you the one advertising on craigslist? My Mom lives in Hawthorne and I talked to her about picking up a buck for me. She is going to come see me sometime this month. Unfortunately I am at this time not driving far. I keep falling asleep suddenly which is not safe.

Hi, Demamma!

Yes, that's me at the moment (there is another Champagne breeder in Reno who also uses CL, though - that's where I got a few of my does from). I've PMed you... Sorry to hear about the sleep issue, definitely don't try to come over the hill to see us until you have that figured out!
