If you have several does kindling there will usually be at least one that will pull enoug fur to cover Cincinnati. ... Always keep a bag of fur from those over achievers for times such as this.

Very true! My overachiever died, but I always was able to keep fur from her. I swear she pulled enough fur to make two more rabbits her size!

I have even kept molted fur from a buck and used it in a nestbox with no problem whatsoever.

I guess I should leave the answers to the pros.
Please don't. If only pros answer, then very few will answer, because very few of us are "pros". I'm sure not. :)

Pros? What pros? We are all learning everyday... and I, for one, wouldn't want it any other way! :book:

True.

That is why I used the word "often" instead of the word "always"

Simply trying to be helpful. I think if one took my reply as a whole it could be.

There are different rabbits and different nest boxes, my reply was a general one.

I apologize, Amy. If the recent replies have been conflicting. I guess I should leave the answers to the pros.

No need to apologize, and I was not criticizing...just offering a different perspective.... ;)

__________ Thu Nov 29, 2012 1:14 pm __________

Pros? There are Pros on here?....they should speak up more, instead of leaving the rest of us to take up the slack... :)

:yeahthat:

We need to beat the bushes and make them come out of hiding! :hiding:

1. Sounds like baby got stuck and she tried to pull it out. I'd leave them with her. Typically if they're cannibalistic they'll take out the entire litter or eat everybody's limbs.
2. She's just nesting. They won't suffocate, believe me. She's got this :)
3. Sounds like the box might be a little bit small, I raise AmChins and meat crosses but my girls are closer to 9-10lbs. It should be okay though. If she fits in it, its fine. You don't want it so big that she'll make a bed out of it.

I have a big stick for bush beating if it's needed
No matter how long ones been doing this, there's ALWAYS something new to learn and we welcome different perspectives.
I think it's a side effect of Rabbitosis Aquirosis, another very good reason to keep spreading it far and wide.

I do hope you were kidding, Frank. You have more years of experience than most people on this forum and your observations have always been valid. Don't let normal differences of view-point put you off, please.

The more rabbits I see, the more I realize that they are very individual animals, particularly in their mothering styles.

I think you are all pro's!
Update on situation....
I took the top off the nestbox, moved the kits to the front and put them back with her. She still puts her front paws and kind of scratches (maybe this is just normal for a rabbit?-) The babies ended up in the back of the box on their own (except for one, which I put with the others).
I'm hoping to be able to leave them with her now, I've always heard Am. Chin's make great mothers (which is why I got that breed) and I do want to leave her to her job and instincts... But, I do hear A LOT of people having problems (DAILY) with kits, mothers, etc. so I do want to be involved enough to prevent any problems that are preventable!! Hope that makes sense!?
Thanks again for all advice, even if different opinions--it helps me and others choose their way of doing things, which may differ from everyone else at times...but, it's so helpful to hear details of how others handle/don't handle certain situations....

No news is good news, you know! Most of the time everything goes well, it is only when things go wrong that people usually post about it. :)
