My new cali doe seems a little depressed and i don't think she's eating. I did persuade her to eat a small piece of dandelion. No other symptoms. Any suggestions?

Did you get some of the food she was eating at her previous home to transition her with? What about hay, parsley, or plantain? Is she at least drinking?

Normally I do get food when I get a new bunny but I didn't this time ( darn it) I did think of that but she and the other bunny had been doing fine on mine until yesterday now she just seems alittle "off".
She pooped in front of me so I know that is fine and she ate a tidbit of dandelion for me this morning but didn't dive into the pellets. The other girl did. I might be worrying to soon but you know with rabbits its better to worry now and relax later if its nothing. Its also hard to say how many times this bunny has been through feed changes recently b/c he got her from somewhere else. Poor thing. I haven't tried hay yet I was letting her get used to my food first. I didn't see any hay with his rabbits so I was afraid to give her to many new things. I do have timothy/alfalfa mix hay cubes I bust up for the other rabbits, should I try some? I feed Manna Pro rabbit feed. She seems well hydrated but is sharing cage with other baby in the only QT cage I have right now.

If she is not eating the pellets, it cannot hurt to offer the cubes, or some rolled oats, which are easily digested.

Ok thank you. I'll give that a try.

__________ Wed Jan 09, 2013 1:25 pm __________

Ahhh good... she's munching and acting more bright and alert. I'll keep watching her though.
Thanks again OneAcrefarm! :)

Glad to hear it! Maybe she just felt a bit homesick...:)

And next time you cannot get feed from the seller, I would suggest that only offering hay the first 24 hours, then oats the next 24-48 hours, then adding pellets 1/4 cup at a morning and evening feeding will get her acclimated to your feed with fewest health issues.

I don't even ask for transition feed (and a lot of times it is simply impractical) and just plan on transitioning them to my feed in this way. Especially since I am purchasing long haired breeds with 3rd party transport ... I know they are possibly upset over the transport, could be suffering from wool block (nervous rabbits groom A LOT) and then the new sounds/smells ... yeah, plenty of opportunity for stress induced P.

AnnClaire thank so much for the info. I will def do that next time. I feel bad b/c the guy was really sick and I just wanted to leave as much for my health as his. I could tell he felt rotten. Then on top of that I wasn't planning to buy the little spotted doe (he had 2 cals but sold one before I got there) but he didn't have change so I suggested that rabbit. I don't think he was planning to part with her but he did to get me out of there! So food didn't come up. I love both of them though, still haven't named them. The cali doe is acting better and is eating. The spotted doe nibbles all the time.
Again thanks to you and OneAcrefarm for the help! :) I will add this to my bunny notes to feed new rabbits this way :)
