I went to the gridley rabbit show last Saturday. It was a triple open. I ended up not taking my NZW buck as he was too yellow from pee wars and I trimmed one nail to short and did not want blood on his foot. I felt so bad. Am more careful now. I did take 2 Satin Juniors and two of my Creme D'Argents. My juniors were very young so got told there was lots of potential but they did not place high as how young they are. I did get what I wanted out of the show for them though. Knowledge. I got good compliments on them but a breeder asked to look at the pedigree I learned never breed a blue broken to a Siamese as then you can get blue Siamese which is un-showable. Since I was wavering on if I wanted to keep in Satins or not I decided to just raise Satins for dinner and not continue getting more. so I will just keep 3 and stop there. I had another breeder go over it with me as I always get second opinions.
My Creme's I took were my Buck and one of my Does. I should of entered them in intermediate but made the mistake of entering them as seniors. One Judge disqualified them as underweight. My buck came in last at the other times as he was small compared to the other bucks. My Doe got a 1st and a 5th next. So I learned how important it is to get them to the right class. I am learning all kinds of things. I decided to go 100% into the Creme's. There are only two other breeders showing and boy are they nice. If you do not have your rabbits on the table when it is time you are tracked down by them. I will be buying some stock from them later. One of the breeders has a teen daughter who is a great kid. I got to help her a little when she was moving her Beverens to the table and one was slipping. How people run around charring two or three rabbits at a time is amazing.
The bad new is my 9 year old daughter's senior Jersey wolley buck we bought as showable was disqualified because of two white toe nails. So I learned a solid dark rabbit needs dark toenails. She was heartbroken as this is her favorite rabbit. He is held all the time and brushed and everything. a very spoiled rabbit. The breeder we got him from at the last show was there. I found her and tried to get her off to the side to talk to ;her but she was not very nice so I just blurted out what happened. She said that she showed him at the last show no problem and she did not have a rabbit to replace him with now but maybe later. She was very rude. Now I know who never to buy rabbits from. I noticed that she had a lot of rabbits for sale and I hope no one else gets burned like we did. The rest of the show she would try and go around us and could not make eye contact. My older girls noticed this. My 17 year old wanted to spread the word but I told her not and just let it go. My 9 year old we found out later said the breeder looked at her when we were not around and rolled her eyes at her after coming and looking at our rabbits. I feel like writing her a email letting her know of how disappointed I am with how she handled it. How I would like some money back since we paid for a show rabbit and got a pet quality. I don't know though. I am not a confrontational person and usually give a person a benefit of a doubt. but she was so rude.
The good new is though we met a lot of nice people and learned a lot. I messed up on my tattoo's and I found a breeder who re tattoed my rabbits for me with a pen. I need to get one of those. I looked at her rabbits she had for sale and walked around trying to find daughter a show able rabbit so she can have fun with the shows and not be DQ'ed. Daughter fell in love with a black Mini Rex. The nice Breeder then took us up to a judge and had him go over 2 of the rabbits (one being the one daughter wanted). Judge said they were very nice rabbits and said good things about them. So daughter now has a Black Mini Rex named Shadow. My 17 year old daughter also got a Fuzzy lop for a pet and show. She also found someone to go over the rabbit(not the breeder) and was taught how to groom and care for it.

aww, that is really to bad she sold you a DQ... That want right of her at all. and the way she did go about it was wrong also... I am happy to read that your daughter found another rabbit that she can show. I wouldnt deal with her again as she new it had different color toenails.. You did learned allot showing your rabbits. gOOD FOR YOU...

Not cool, sometimes people make my head hurt. You will love your black mini Rex....I had one last May and now have 6 black....can you say addiction!!!!

I keep telling myself we do not need a Mini Rex doe to go with the buck. I love him I think more than my daughter. He is so soft and I love how he looks. Maybe we should teach him to jump and such over hurdles he is so athletic. I don't need another Mini Rex I don't need another Mini Rex. But I want one.

Not siding with the seller, but I've had show quality rabbits, who have been shown, pull a toenail and the one that comes in to replace it is white. This has happened to me numerous times on mini rex, because their little needle sharp toenails get hung up in everything!
It is entirely possible that the rabbit was indeed show quality when she sold it to you.
Of course, it is also entirely possible that she sold a cull rabbit to a beginner. Just wanted you to know the other option was a possibility.

Just for your own knowledge, I *believe* is is a DQ in any breed for a solid colored rabbit to have mismatched toenails.

Also, just for your own knowledge, I have owned solid colored showable rabbits that became unshowable after breeding / fighting / etc, because the hair that came back in to replace any that was pulled out was white.

So, just saying, just because you purchase a show quality rabbit, doesn't mean that it will remain show quality. Any number of things can happen that will DQ it that will be no fault of the seller.

we got the rabbit from her a month before at the previous show. she knew what she was doing. if it was dishonest mistake I believe she would of acted different.
