Say perhaps a cali buck to a dutch doe?

I am considering getting a dutch doe to complement my dutch buck. One of the local stores is looking for a small breed that sells well, and I enjoyed raising the couple pet litters I did..

So if I were to get a dutch doe, I wouldn't want only pet litters out of her, as I want mostly meat rabbits, and my research on dutch shows they are nice little meat as well as per buns. So if I were to get her, and breed her to the cali buck I am going to get this afternoon, would the kits be to large and hurt or kill her? As I would NEVER risk that.

I know in some animals, horses, cats, dogs..ect are ok to breed small femal to larger breed or type male. How do rabbits work.

I had a Dutch doe that I bred to a Cal and a NZW buck and she did just fine. You would not want to breed a Netherland or anything that small to a Cal or NZW. The Dutch tend to have good size litters, so the kits are pretty small.

I've bred bigger bucks to smaller does and not had issues.

A breeder north of me had her mini rex doe accidentally escape into her Flemish Giant bucks pen. She kindled without issue, six healthy kits. They were proportionate to the does past kits she had had in normal breedings. They were adorable!!! Looked almost netherland dwarf like with bigger ears.

I would be more worried about cross breeding a vast size difference in rabbit breeds that are short nosed, large, and rounded skulls.

I wouldn't recommend such extreme breedings! Just saying it has happened with "relieved" results.

some does will not survive being bred to a large buck though. The larger the buck, the larger the kits (usually). The same goes for other types of animals.

if your doe is close in size or at least non-dwarf then there is a good chance she will produce ok
