Lost a kit today

Found 1 of my 9 week old MR kits dead in the hutch. And a second one that is skinney.

I think because I had 9 kits in 1 growout pen that the 2 smaller ones were being bullied away from the food. I sold 2 but still had 7 of them togather, well now down to 6 with the one dead. So i split the litter in half and put 3 to a cage, and as a precaution I brought the skinny kit inside for the night as it is supposed to get pretty cold tonight, and i fgure that is what killed the other one.

I feel bad that I havent been paying that much attention to them with all the holidays and family get togathers, I have just been feeding and watering, and not really petting them too much. Lesson learned! From now on i will be monitering weights better, and not putting so many in 1 cage when they are this old.

Sorry for your loss. We lost 2 today. One was a runt that was 5 days old. We were surprised every time we checked on him and he was still alive. The other was a 4 wk old kit that was sick. We put him down before he started really suffering. He was heading downhill fast

Hope the other one recovers!

I have had that many in a growout cage together, that old. I have 8 in each of two cages right now. I will have to keep an eye on them.

I hate losing kits...makes me feel like I should've done something. We had a litter of three just yesterday and by nightfall they were dead. It wasn't any one thing but several factors that just all added up. I hope you're little one makes it okay!
