Remember I just bought this doe from a angora rabbit.. I went to feed them this morning and I found this in her cage... Like what?.. the breeder tells me that she didn't try breeding her yet.... Hummmm... maybe a buck next door.I gave her a nesting box and she is digging to china in there.. what do you think???? she had fur in each corner of her cage and she has a round belly.. but that dosnt mean nothing.

Round belly does mean something if your rabbit normally doesn't have one. How do you think kits fit in there if not expanding the stomach? They aren't going to loose gut and muscle to fit them in there. Every animal grows a belly to some extent, even fish get more round when full of eggs.

I'm guessing 8 kits!

hm... did you just get her? like she started doing this the day of bringing her home or the second day there.

I have had it happen at least three times that I bring home a grown doe and she pulls fur... just because... two hadn't been bred, no chance. and the latest one I bred her on the way home to a stud buck. and she pulled a few mouthfuls of fur into the nest part of the hutch. *shrugs*

other then that or she ended up getting bred through the cage or something.. I got nothing... sorry... hope she does good if she does kindle though :)

I know that Cb.... but I didn't have her that long to know if a round belly on her is normal or not.. But I just checked on her and she is still pulling fur and jumping in the next box.. I wonder how she got pregnant and never been breed.. That is a new one to me. If she is preggo.. I am very happy about it.. I have to go and check again.

I gave her more hay in her cage.. and she took all of it and put it in the nest box.. I don't know what to think.. if she is or isn't.

__________ Tue Aug 06, 2013 9:45 am __________

an hour later and still pulling fur.. She is almost bald on her sides... wow.. no babies so far

Jeez, hope it doesn't get cold tonight where you are, she could die of exposure.
Felt her belly for anything kit shaped?

Wow, MaryAnn!

That would be a neat surprise if she is! :p

Regarding her naked sides- my JW doe Summit did that, and a couple days after her skin was all dry and looked like she had gotten scraped up and had areas of thin scabbing like when you scrape your knee. I put Burt's Bees lotion on her, which cleared it up within a couple of days.

she had 9 babies... her is a pic of them. I am so happy.. I contact the breeder .. She say she had of breed through the cage.

Yes mammasheep it is very nice surprise.. this is why she wouldnt breed .. Now I know why... I thought she just wanted a different buck.. but did breed with the cal.. Now I know that isn't going to work.. I am very happy about that. Mamma got some birds seed today.. I seen her eat allot of wool that was stuck to the after birth.. I am a little worry about wool block. so I will be putting the bird seed to her..

YAY congrats!!!

does the breeder know which buck it would be?
we are working on that.. she has a friend that helps with the rabbits on daily basis.. She has three other bucks plus the one that I bought from her.. She couldn't believe it and that many to... we will know more when the colors start coming in and pin point out of the three which one it is.. Mystery..

found out what happened.. She sex the litter and moved some . but not all and forgot to come back and resex them... So this is a brother and sister breeding.. I never had that happen before.. How is that going to be. .. Now I am worried..

Conrats on the popples!

I wouldn't worry too much about the brother/sister breeding. Just look at it this way- more buns to choose your breeding stock from.

I would give the lady one or two babies for free if she wants them... just out of niceness... because she gave you a lot more than you paid for. :) I know she wasn't expecting it, but it would be nice.

Congrats!!!

Congrats :)

I just bred brother to sister, to flush out the chocolate gene I'm wanting. Out of the three litters she's had so far, this is the biggest fastest growing group. You will really be able to see what genes both good and bad this way.

I've done brother/sister breedings, and gotten some very nice rabbits. Breeding that closely makes it more likely to pair up the genes for certain traits, good or bad. It is a good way to see what strengths and weaknesses are lurking in their genes.

WOOHOO!! Popples!!

And no, brother-sister breedings aren't a problem as long as you don't do it too many generations in a row.
