Very Newbie question....here I sit entering my newly purchased bun's pedigree into my software and see 'Legs:2' on his papers. What does that mean? I'm sorry if this is in the wrong forum...I'm just assuming it has something to do with showing...? One of his grand dams has 1 leg also....

Yes, need 3 legs to be a grand champion.Means won against 5 rabbits 3 exhibitors minimum. Could be in age group jr/sr, variety or breed.

But unless you have the certificates for those specific legs they can't be counted toward his GC if you were to decide to register for it later on, correct?

Yes, she would need to have those GC papers to grand later on if that rabbit wins its finally GC leg. So who ever you got your rabbit from, try to get a hold of those :)

Many thanks to everyone! If I have the date, show and registration number does that matter? Or do I have to have the actual paperwork? I'm not planning on showing, it's just more for my education than anything. For instance, one grand dam has a registration number and GC# listed. Another has "BOB 7-17-10 LPCF. One has BOS 3/21/09 NCIRBA

If it's on an existing pedigree, it most likely means that the rabbit in question had been awarded 2 grand championship legs.

Ditch, if it's on the actual rabbit itself, the legs should have been provided to you at the time of sale or, if the animal qualified for a leg at a previous show, you should receive it shortly after the breeder receives them from the show secretaries (not at all unusual during show seasons to receive them after the fact). If it was on the SIRE or DAM of the animal you purchased, it was likely included for brevity due to the lack of space to list everything on the pedigree.

Thank you SatinsRule, some of the information is on the parents and grandparents of my buns. Purchased one that's registered and got his registration papers as well as his pedigree. I'm assuming that kind of info is listed on pedigrees to have some idea of the quality the bun has in it's lineage. Very interesting stuff indeed. Appreciate the information :)
