1 dead. 1 almost dead. 2 more bloated like this.

What the heck is going on????

don't know. I've never had that in kits so young. did they get cold? bitten by something? doesn't look like they over drank as the bloating is wrong for that.

One was cold. The dead one could have been pushed out of the nest. It wasn't super close to the others.

Uh-oh! I've never had that happen, either! Hopefully someone will see this that knows what is going on.

Good thinking! Are these the ones that had the weird poop? Could be some kind of bacteria in the gut... do you have probiotics to give them?

Got one to pee. But it wasn't yellow. It was milky whiteish

__________ Mon Jun 25, 2012 11:36 am __________

They could be the ones with the weird poop... I'm not sure.

My first concern was infection so I pulled out all the effected kits.

At least it peed. The urine could be very concentrated if it hasn't been peeing. Is it less bloated now?

Keeping the affected kits separate was a wise idea.

If these are from the litter that had the odd poop, I would suspect something bacterial or viral. The probios will help establish proper gut flora which may help. Give some to the doe as well.

I would clean out the nest and put all new bedding and clean fur in it. If you don't have saved fur and need to use the old fur, I would spray it down with rubbing alcohol and put it back in when it is dry.

The only time I have seen kits this bloated was when I was hand-feeding kits, and unwittingly overfed them. It didn't quite look like this, though. I've never heard of it in nursed kits, either.

I think stimulating peeing was a smart move, too. I wish I could help more. :(

MSD has some great suggestions... I think rather than resorting to using cleaned old fur, though, maybe dryer lint would be a better option.

Not experienced in rabbits but am experienced in dogs and parrots. I have had a pup or two look similiar and the Dam wasn't stimulating them enough for them to urinate, I definately think that you may be on the right track. I used a warm wash cloth every 30 minutes or so until I got the pups to normal. I also increased the temps, I believe the pups were a winter litter and although inside, it was still perhaps not quite warm enough. That shouldn't be an issue though for you. I hope you can save them.

Bah I just had this problem! I had a first time doe kindle and I thought she was over feeding them. They looked ust like this! First one died at 2 days old. The other 2 died at 5!

Sharon, I wish I had suggestions for you. It does seem to me that getting them to pee is a good direction to go. Hope you can get this resolved and save the remaining kits!

Just thought of something- are these kits from the Mom you fed lavender to?

One might be from the lavender fed mom but not all 4 that have this (two died, two are in the house).

If they are from different litters then the lavender shouldn't be the issue. From different litters, I would be thinking bacterial or viral. I wish I had an idea for you. I hope someone has something else you could try to save the kits.

Well, they're still alive. We just got back from a livestock auction. I was fully expecting at least one to be dead. I can't get either of them to pee. They did put out a little poop while I was stimulating them. Any tips on getting them to pee? I'm using a warm, wet paper towel and gently tapping their genitals.

The poop is dark mustard brownish.
