Mother's milk? possibly....what else could impact a youngster to this degree? if from more than one doe....possibly something ingested that affected their milk.

Are you fasting them now? If you do not let them feed for a day and night, will they thin back or is it constant bloat?

All the same doe. It's not a food bloat. It's distended bellies. I've been trying all day to get them to pee. The black one peed some white pee. I tried getting him to pee an hour ago but nothing. Now he screams whenever he's touched or jostled. I'm at such a loss. Checked the nest and none of the others are like this.

If they are in pain, I'd probably euthanize them and then open them up and see if I could figure out what the problem is. Certainly, if one dies, it would be a good idea to check for the source of the bloating. I'm sorry you're going through this. Not knowing what is happening or what to do must make you feel so helpless and frustrated.

Is it air? Just some ideas of things I would do, if it was a pup- heating pad on my lap, rub their backs try to get any air out or gently rock them- like you would a newborn to get air out.

Some pedalyte on their tongues to get a little liquid in them and give them some energy so they don't dehydrate, also in case they are just really backed up because the doe hasn't been getting them to eliminate. Just the clear liquid may help. Wipe them with a soft cotton cloth (like a cloth diaper) that has been squeezed out with warm water, gently run it over them to try to get them to eliminate.

Is the doe eating ok, she seems healthy and normal? My ideas may not work or be helpful to you but I thought I'd throw them out there because it sounds like you are like me and would rather try something than do nothing and just sit back and wait.

The black one is limp but alive. I spent about 5 mins trying to stimulate him to pee or poop but nothing. I brushed some Gatorade on his lips with a corner of a paper towel to help him get some sugar and strength but I don't think he'll make it.

The white one.. wow did he poop a lot but I still haven't been able to get him to pee.

I'm so frustrated that I could cry. I don't know how else to help them.

__________ Mon Jun 25, 2012 7:03 pm __________

Well, the white one has been pooping like crazy and his belly is looking much better. I put him back in the nest.

The black one died.

What a crappy craptastic crappy day.

I'm sorry about the black one. It is so frustrating when there is no easy answer but you are making progress with the white one so that is good.

I have learned between the dogs and parrots that so much is just trying your best and then even when you do everything right, sometimes little ones just don't thrive. There is much we don't have control over and it seems very unfair at times.

Sorry you lost the kit. I know how frustrating it is to work to save an animal only to lose it. If you are like me you always think there is something more you could have done even though sometimes there is no more you can do. I'll tell ya what my granpa always told me " throw your chin up, your shouldrers back, and keep on steppin"....

They can actually overfeed to the point of rupturing their stomachs....that may be what happened with the black one...
