I'm currently attempting to make the most out of the free version of the Kintracks rabbitry management software. It looks like this very well may be the software I end up going with for my rabbitry data management tasks. I thought it would be nice to have a thread dedicated to discussions between other users of this software. I look forward to hearing from you! :)

Even if you buy the software, it's less than $20 U.S. and they upgrade it forever after. I've been using it since '09 and the only complaint I have is that it was changed around a bit when they went from the original Kintracks to the 'Animal Breeder' (current) version. I'm still getting used to the new button placements.
They did change the name colors for bucks and does now, though, which is nice. Previously, I'd put an 'F' for Female in front of a doe's name and an 'M' for Male in front of a buck's name to keep them sorted by gender. Which meant when printing out pedigrees, I'd have to either print them with odd looking names or change the name when printing a pedigree.

Now I can tell genders by the color of the name, but it'd be nice if they'd let us sort the names by gender, age, color or another variable of our choice.

How do you get it? I have tried but it doesn’t work. I go on the website the on downloads and then I download one of options and then I go on my files and then there is this thing. What should I do?

It's amazing how many applications there are that do not allow you to sort the way you want to sort!

The free version must still be named kintrack, yes? Mine doesn’t say anything about animal breeder and I don’t see different colors. I am using it more and more, but mostly for matings, births etc. I have designed a really nice (for me and how my brain works) excel day-to-day record keeping. One for my daily and weekly chores, tracking weather and hutch ventilation needs, etc., as well as for upcoming needs for each rabbit. Then I have another I designed and se for tracking each litter and each individual within the litter, from birth to final outcome, whatever that may be. However, I have decided to go ahead and buy the licensed version of Kintraks just to get the email support to help me navigate a few quirks with the software. What I like most about Kintraks and using excel is that all of my data is available locally if/when the internet goes down, I still have access to all of my data.

Yeah, which is why the work around of putting the 'M' and 'F' in front of their names.

Now I'm naming them each year in alphabetical order. Last year was 'A's with the first ones having names higher up in the stack. 'Abby' before 'Annie', etc. This year they will all be named with a 'B', so eventually, they will all be sorted by age as well as by name.

Previously, there was a name theme so I know that all the bunnies with Roman names were from one year and the bunnies named for atmospheric conditions were from the year before, etc. But, then I had to remember the order of the name themes.

I suppose another way would be to just put a number in front of their name, but that would look odd on pedigrees.

Do you think we should ask Kintracks if they'd put in a sort function?

Yup, in case the internet goes down, the data is still there. I also print out hardcopies of the pedigrees just in case something happens to the program. It's backed up on the spare hard drive, but in case of some sort of catastrophic total computer loss, there's back up. A .pdf 'print out' of the pedigrees is also sent to each buyer, so I could also go back through old emails and get copies of the pedigrees from there, too, I suppose. At least, for the bunnies that were sold.

Does Excel let you add in pictures? I've never really gotten along all that well with Excel, not quite sure why.

I know this is an older thread but hoping more will jump in. I just installed this program & at first a bit difficult but the "Help" instructions have been great up to the "Weight" button which I cannot find. Nor does the "Help" section tell you where it is. So, instead I input all the weights under the "Journal" section of each rabbit. Can anyone tell me where the "weight" button is? I like the graph section.

I also have the paid version but it hasn't been updated in a long time. It is under the health tab.

I’ve never used Kintraks, cuz I’ve hard bad things about it. I’ve been using GlobalPedigree.com for about 3 years now and absolutely love it!

Thank you! I went in today & found the Weight under the Health tab. Just needed to click over a couple of buttons. I was able to enter all 12 rabbits & loving the graph chart it automatically displays. I have nothing bad to say just beginner learning curve which the "help" button is great until the "weight" section.

I've used Kintraks for years and never had any issues. The developer is very helpful too. One thing which might put people off is that it doesn't do genetics, but that doesn't worry me.
