Gaia's been having contractions for an hour now, but nothing is happening. She's left the nest, leaving 1 kit (live) and 2 placentas, and no bits or pieces of a 2nd kit. I'm worried... :( I've watched her from under the cage, and I can't see any kit sticking out, she just leaks a few drops of blood. I'd given her a tums tablet before she went into labor and tried giving her another when she'd jumped out, but she's refusing it.
The single kit is in a towel in the dryer - apparently, my body heat is not warm enough. >:/ I hope my 2nd doe has her litter soon, because I can't find my heat pad and I hate using my heater.
I don't know what I can do for Gaia. If she makes it through this, she is going to get so many carrots!

There are a couple threads about herbs that cause contractions and help with retained kits. I'll see if I can't find those for you if she hasn't finished by now. It sounds like a kit may be stuck farther in if you can't see it and there is no evidence if it being born yet, but don't take my word for it since I've never been in that situation. If she is still having issues, maybe some willow too, to help with the pain? Hope it all turned out well if it hasn't yet.

If you don't have any on hand, maybe stock up before your next litter? I think I will too now after what your going through, just in case

She gobbled up her parsley. It's still stuck, although at noon it was so far up in there I could hardly feel it's toes when she pushed. It's been several hours now and now, and if I'm lucky I could pinch it's toes, but I couldn't hold it there.
She doesn't look too comfy but she's not grinding her teeth and doesn't look out of it. Every now and then she gets up to stretch her legs. I have her in a pen now so she can hop around more when she wants.

__________ Fri Aug 30, 2013 12:04 am __________

Around 24 hours in, and she passed one of those huge dreadful fluid-filled kits. A normal kit followed it. I worry she's got 2nd watery kit next.

So sorry to hear about your troubles.

*fingers crossed for healthy kits to come*

No more live kits. At least one made it...but I'm not sure if she can nurse it+some others now after all this?

I would try. If you have another doe with kits, kidnap a pair or trio of those and give them to her so her remaining kit has buddies to snuggle with. I wager once she's rested a bit she'll be capable of nursing. :)

Or if you are worried she can't or won't, and have another doe with a litter, put the surviving kit in with the other doe's litter?

There's been 9 stillborns. I think she could be done. She's running around being pretty happy and cute and cuddly and wanting to hump anything that moves. So in other words, back to normal. lol
She didn't seem at all interested in the kits, just in digging at the nest.

What a pretty girl and sweet too! So sorry about the babies, hope she does better next time. :) :clover:

What a sweet doe! Bless her little heart, I think she wants extra snuggles after that ordeal!

I'm glad she pulled through. :)

I am really surprised that she had a stuck kit with a litter of nine. Usually the kits are oversized due to there being only a few.

Has she had a litter before? Makes me wonder how many would be "normal" for her to carry.

I think she must be hiding something nasty in her genetics, "water puppies"...but the rabbit version? :s This has only happened when she's been bred to her sons. Don't think I'll be doing that again.

WOW, that is enormous. Your poor doe. I can't imagine how big she was with so many babies and one that was that size. I'm glad she's okay.

My NZW had a stuck kit in a litter of 7. Smaller, but not a small litter. That is odd to have one in a litter of 9 be so much larger.
