Thought I would put this on here for a choice in killing methods. I prefer the bat, BUT my arm got hurt, and this is what I used..... there are 2 different sizes this is the larger (I have the smaller) think it is half the price of this one, you may find it at your local harbor freight tools. I also want to give credit to someone out there that came up with a similar homemade model....so here it is... http://www.harborfreight.com/18-inch-x- ... 90874.html They are NOT sharp, and will not take the head off, quick easy kill...2 people are better than one as to hold the back feet to position the neck.

I've always used the "I'm a ninja karate chop" to the back of the neck thing. At the same time I role play that I'm either Chuck Norris or Bruce Lee. :ninjajig: :ninjafist: Gotta have fun doing it. :)

I made something similar but its on a MUCH larger base so the rabbit has plenty of room to stand so its a one person job to position it for the kill.

That is what my husband did before we got the Wringer....:ninjafist:

Is this a troll? If it is please delete this thread.

I am intentionally being blunt. The paper cutter idea is ridiculous. Might have some merit on a production line arrangement but maybe not even then.

BroodCoop, the video you linked to? It is the same poster as the person who started this thread....I have my qualms about the paper cutter idea... :x ... but it *is* similar to a "kill table" I have seen elsewhere.

OK, so it's not a troll. I didn't recognize the OP but yes, he does know what he's doing.

Anything that looks like a guillotine is not going to help with PR.

I recognize that physical limitations must be taken into account with virtually everything and there is no easy or best way to do this.

Yep...very true. There are those that swear by the "broomstick" method. I simply cannot do it that way. It makes me feel very uncoordinated and I feel I am not doing the most humane job of it. I like the way my Wringer works, but let's be honest, that isn't going to win any PR awards either. Killing is killing, and those that protest are going to protest, no matter how we do it. We just have to make sure that we are doing our best to make it as fast and humane as we can.

I agree with OAF, the people that are going to freak about us killing animals to eat are going to do so no matter what method we use to do it. The best way to dispatch is the one YOU can do the quickest and easiest, be it broomstick, gun, wringer, whatever. The first time I had rabbits I had strong enough hands I could use manual cervical dislocation, fast forward fifteen years and I can't do that anymore. I feel very badly I found that out the hard way.

Ok...I am going to be blunt here....First I almost ripped your butt Broodcoop ....then I read on, and will forget the "troll" comment....but the hell with PR! I have watched on youtube just about every video out there on rabbit killing...with the exception of 4-5 they are unprofessional and plain suck!! From some woman laughing as she is trying to broomstick a rabbit to some idiot that can't sharpen a knife before the kill...recently some guy posted a video of the whack to the head then swinging the animal around like it was a damn funny game...can't miss this idiot he obviously likes playing in blood, and wears ripped up pants to boot!

If anyone really bothered to read my original post I clearly stated it did not remove the head!! I am for using the quickest most humane methods possible. I use a bat, but like I said....some people hate guns, others don't like the broomstick method, still other can't afford the rabbit wringer. The paper cutter with one quick motion breaks the neck. Are you people seriously trying to tell me standing on a rabbit with a stick "looks" better...really?!....if you do I think you are rediculious! The paper cutter is less than $20! (the smaller one)

I still prefer the gun. The rabbit is in a milk crate and done. There is no holding the rabbit and it is fast and easy.

That's how I do it also. With a pellet gun there is little or no danger of the pellet going through the head and endangering anyone. The rabbit stays calm right up to the kill shot. The meat is tenderer when the rabbits adrenilin is not up.

Hi Bowbuild. I felt better about the whole thing after I saw it was you. Your video is still the best one I have seen. Did you watch the video I posted a link to for deboning?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J6ud68Qmdyc

I don't too much care what other people think either but PR is important because some people seem to make a life of outlawing everything except shopping at Wal-Mart and sitting in traffic jams.

I had a friend recently going to show me how good the pellet gun was and it was a little of a fiasco. The whack to back of the head is best for me but it is easier for me than it is for a lot of people. Sometimes it is easy to forget how lucky I am.

You dont have to be hostal ... we are just trying to help. When you look at the picture . that blade will cut off any head. You say it wouldnt and it isnt sharp. but look at it. It sure looks like it to me.
just wanted to add... In school they use to use these to cut paper but at a 100 sheets or so at a time. One swipe down with the arm and it was all cut.

I believe BowBuild's remarks were pointed toward BroodCoop, and not the rest of us, Mary Ann....

The paper cutter that he shows only cuts about 12-15 sheets of paper at a time. There is no way it could cut a rabbits head off. It won't even cut through the fur. I know the one you are talking about, though. Heavy wood base and heavy metal arm with much thicker, sharper blade. That *may* take off a head, but not the one BowBuild showed...

One acre is right, and the paper cutter shown has NO BLADE at all (the blade area is flat)....but either way that would personally make no difference to me. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE....read BEFORE you comment. "We were just trying to help" I appriciate that...but if you reread this whole thread it is from my point of view taken WAY out of content and I felt insulted because I was trying to help. I think Oneacre took it like I wanted it presented, and understood. People want pics when it's the written word to better understand.....then when they get pics they no longer READ! I have no problem with constructive criticism, but not ignorance because of lacking to read.

Yes, I have watched that deboning video many times. He is very talented. I have tried it, and have gotten fairly good results, BUT I have found that fryers are much harder to debone than mature rabbits....his rabbit was rather mature was my guess.

Bowbuild

I tried the deboning too. The aging of the meat seems to make a big difference. I have had mixed results from very good to kinda messy. It did get me to use different parts of the rabbit for different meals. Overall I thought it was a very worthwhile effort.

Hope your arm is feeling better.

Broodcoop,

I have found if you chill the rabbit (almost to the point of rigor) it tends to go easier on the boning. When the rabbit is at room temp they are a slime ball to hold on too. Again not froze, just a little stiff. I also chill my bunny burger before it goes through the grinder.
