I have green split peas, like you use to make split-pea soup.
ok, Sound like you have th white. The maple one i can get whole or split.
I just put 2 tablespoon of molasses in a 5 gallon buck of water. I know Maggie did this . But i cant remember how often and how much she used. Do you?

I've never used molasses in their drinking water. I sometimes, especially in winter, take a half bucket of grain, add some BOSS and maybe some kitchen oatmeal. I put a spoonful of blackstrap molasses and a spoonful of sunflower oil (or other vegetable oil) in a cup, add a couple ounces of hot water and mix it well, then stir it into the grain mix. You don't want it wet... just enough moisture so it will stir in thoroughly.

I use this mix if there are fryers who still seem voracious after normal feeding, a doe that needs a boost or like that. All the rabbits eat it happily but I don't want them gaining too much weight, so it is a now and again kind of thing.

It would likely be fine once in a while. Just be careful it doesn't start to ferment in the heat. :buds:
I gave it to them at supper chores as i call it. This morning what ever is left i dump and add fresh water. I do that also with the tea mix i do for them also

__________ Tue Jun 19, 2012 6:33 pm __________

Tell you what- I will buy a bag of pellets next time I go to town, because if the rabbits don't like it, I have horses that will eat it, and you don't. One thing though- I have only ever seen the pellets with molasses... since it is a small part of their diet, I don't mind, but that will be what I will be able to test this out with.
Since now i am low on my beet pulp...I was wondering if you went to town and bought the pellets and see if the rabbits like it.

Nope, not yet- we were away for the weekend, and passed through town too late to get any. Sometime this week. Even if I don't go, one of the neighbors is bound to be going, and I will have them pick a bag up. I ran out myself- as of today they will be on straight grains. I will just add it in when I get the pellets.

What does beet pulp have that is good for rabbits?
Curious as I'm preparing to feed grain diet, how important it is.?
Thanks

Beet pulp is easy to digest and puts on weight on the rabbits. So you have to be careful when using it. It is good for them. Lots of fibre.

__________ Thu Jun 28, 2012 1:45 pm __________

Mamasheepdog. DId you rabbits like the beet pulp pellets.??

Today i picked up shredded with molasses and a bag of plain pellet forum and also a bag of alfalfa pellets. But i notice that there are alot of powder in the bag. The pellets are not big at all. Just a little fatter than the rabbit pellet will be . But shorter. I think the bag that i got was toss around allot. Now to see if the rabbit like it.

Yesterday I bought beet pulp pellets (with molasses) and plain alfalfa pellets (for horses) and mixed up a new batch of feed. This morning, I found that the rabbits had scratched their grain out of the feeders- they have never, EVER, done that before, so there was something in the mix that they really wanted!

Unfortunately, I have been feeding Rye hay for the last two weeks, with an occasional few alfalfa/timothy hay cubes, so it may be they were after the alfalfa. I bought more alfalfa hay yesterday, so I think I will feed my normal mix in the evening for a couple of days, and give alfalfa hay and a few of the beet and alfalfa pellets separately in the mornings.
