so I’m curious on rabbits that are considered “ Harlequinized “

some rabbits can be hard to tell by sight, if they are harlequinized or not, i’ve noticed.
I would love some info on how to determine harlequinized rabbits and more on how to tell if they carry that gene

Any pictures of “harlequinized” rabbits for examples, would be great too😃
Only have had rabbits for a year now and I am still learning genetics /colors and such.
thank you!

I also consider Tris as it:) I’m happy to share more pix of my bunnies. But about the genes and all I’m still some what new to raising rabbits and although I know a lot! Genes and how those work still hasent made it’s way entirely into my brain lol. Maybe just look at the pedigree and see the ancestors.

harlequinized is different than a harlequin coloured rabbit.

Harlequinized is a colour that has been affected by the harlequin gene.

below are two harlequinzed kits. One is a sable point. and the other I'm not sure what he was! I've gotten harlequinized chestnuts but it's harder to tell them via a camera shot as it's a variation of darkness in the coat. It's harder to see it.

Thanks for all the pics!
Im still having a hard time pointing out an actual “harlequinized rabbit” especially ones that have slight markings or are in pictures— like mentioned above, pics can be hard to tell sometimes.
However, picture examples are my best way of learning so far,
so it’s much appreciated.

Ohhh…. lol😂. So like these who aren’t harle but carry it? These are tort who carry harle.
Tort can't carry Harlie - the Harlie gene is dominant to Tort, so if they had a Harlie gene they WOULD be Harlie.

Harlequinised usually refers to agouti/chestnut that has one Harlie gene, and is A_ Ee(j). It expresses as a normal chestnut/agouti but with patches of dark steel in a random Harlie pattern.

You can also get Harlequinised Otters, and these appear with part of the otter pattern blocked out with darker patches, and usually also patches on the belly. These would be a(t)_Ee(j).

Harlie has no effect on self, so a self carrying harlie, aa Ee(j), is no different visually to aa EE.

I have a harlequinized chinchilla Tamuk doe. Sending a few different pics so you can see.
