Ugh. Hartz is AWFUL. Awful awful stuff. They should NOT be allowed to continue to operate, as the number of animals who have extremely bad reactions to their products is awful. Just google it, and read the horror stories. I personally will not buy anything that is Hartz brand.

Hopefully she picks back up and pulls through. I'm willing to put money down that it was the Hartz flea collar.

SHE ATE!!! :bouncy: :bouncy: :bouncy:

We had put a little tuna out for her, and she wolfed it, licked the bowl clean, and looked for more. We didn't give her more, since we didn't want to make her sick, putting too much on her stomach at once.

The kids spotted her coming up the driveway! Can you imagine the pluck of a cat who is so determined to get somewhere, she'll do it, even staggering like a drunk? Couldn't believe it. We all headed outside to see her, and she soaked up the attention. Poor thing, walking that distance in the rain, she was all wet. But at least she found the tuna and ate it, and now she knows there's a bed there for her. Heaven only knows if she'll use it. She went back under the house.

While she was still staggering, she was mostly catching herself before she actually fell. That is an improvement, as is the desire to be petted. She was barely interested last night.

We'll put a little more tuna out there later tonight if she comes out again. :)

__________ Wed Dec 05, 2012 6:57 pm __________

We found some of them last night. Quite a few similar stories to Daga's. :(

Glad to hear she's doing better!!

I think the Hartz stories that make me feel the worst are the cheap-imitation-revolution drops ones... It sticks in my mind, these poor animals with hot spots the size of sandwich plates on the back of their neck because of that garbage, and it doesn't even work!!

HURRAH! :mbounce:

The rain probably helped rinse some of the poison off too! I am so glad she is showing signs of improvement. :D

Keep it up, Daga! You can do it! :cheerleader:

That's what we're hoping! :D She was so wet on the outside, I wasn't going to drive any of it closer to her skin by wiping or anything. We pet her very carefully for that same reason.

once Marilla started to improve, she got better quickly.
That is encouraging! I hope it's the same for Daga!

We didn't see her tonight. I don't know if she was somewhere else, or if she just didn't feel like coming out from under the house. With all the pillars, it's impossible to see all under there. She's still a stray, really... we're just trying to invite her not to be as much of one. :)

Wow flea collar in the vacume, what a great idea! I know ceder is not thge greatest for rabbits but i use it in my dog and cat bedding, it repels flees cinimon kills flee eggs so i use that in my carpet. Also eucaliptis(sound it out slowly, i a BAD speller) repells all kinds of bugs including ticks and fleas. and try to keep the grass and brush low high grass= bugs. I have used python poltry dust around my place, and on myself when i found my mothers chickens were getting mites.at the ranch were i worked we used it on a horse that came in with lice(dosed myself with it then too) Yes a cat or dog will get sick and can die if it eats a rodent that ate poison. if you ceach it early enough or even suspect poison give them/force it down, peroxide it wii make them throw up whats ever in threr belly. then give raw eggs and milk, somthing about them absorbs and blocks the poison in there system. ask me how i know :( I hope you dont loose a nice cat

Glad to hear Daga ate. She sounds like a real fighter. Fingers crossed that this stray gets better and realizes she has found a loving family who cares about her.

She has improved some more this morning! :D Not staggering nearly as much. Still walking with a wide stance, and still has trouble keeping her balance if she shakes her head or something.

I took a video of her this morning, so I'll edit it and post it later. Wish I'd thought to do that yesterday. She's been in both of the kids' laps, just soaking in all of the attention they're willing to dish out. :)

She ate some more tuna, horking it down like she hadn't seen food in a week.

just a thought... how are her ears? I know ear infection can cause balance problems, so maybe she could have been affected by the flea collar and an ear infection?

I've got some good news, and some bad news (well... sorta bad).

The good news is, she has continued to improve. :D

The sorta bad news is... she's not a stray!

The neighbor across the street, for whom we chicken-sat, has two calicoes that look very similar. VERY similar. One was theirs, and the other we were told was a stray. So when the stray followed us home, we figured maybe we had a cat.

Only it was their cat that followed us, not the stray.

...And, as it turns out, the stray really isn't a stray either. I think he wishes it was, but apparently his wife brought it home, and he really didn't want it. So... as much as he'd like to have one cat, he has two, and we poisoned the one he wants!!!

Thankfully, he was just glad she hadn't been gotten by a coyote. He was very gracious about the whole mix-up. Thank goodness! What a way to make friends -- steal the neighbor's cat and almost kill it! :(

Lol, Miss M! That's terrible, but it gave me a good laugh anyway. :D

I'm glad Daga is doing better. :) Hopefully she will continue to come visiting and mouse when she is there- kind of like a kitty safari! :D

Too bad you aren't closer- I have a litter of "MamaSheepdog's BarnCats Extraordinaire" that will be ready for Christmas! :p

I laugh about it too... when I'm not busy being horrified!

Miss M, I think that unless they keep Daga inside, she might have adopted you.
She is an outside cat, and she was here visiting this morning. She's still improving. :D We put away all her things, though, so she'll go home for food, and hopefully start staying around there more again!

With all the attention the kids give her, though, I'm sure we'll be seeing plenty of her. Maybe she'll catch a mouse or two for us. :)
