I have two 7 week old mini lops. ONe doe and one buck from a different bloodline. They are in the same cage right now. How long can I keep them together before they try to mate? At what age is best to mate them? Thanks for any help. These are our first babies and we have a lot to learn!! - Jim in arkansas

Welcome to RabbitTalk, Gyro! :welcomewagon:

They should be separated by 14 weeks, sooner if one is harassing the other. 5 - 6 months is probably a good age for minilops to start breeding, but I'm sure some minilop breeders will chime in to help you out. :)

Welcome to the forum! :)

With my Mini Lops, I tend to separate the boys from the girls around 8-10 weeks. Usually after culling, the will each have their own cage by 10 weeks. I'm sure you could make it to 12 and possibly 14 but it may be pushing it. If they are show quality, show them first. The bucks tend to have the longer show career than your doe. Sometime having babies can be very taxing on does and they won't ever get the condition back that they once had before raising a litter.

I've tried breeding my brood does (if they have a non-genetic fault like fighting with a neighbor and taking a nip to the ear,etc...) around 5-5 1/2 and I haven't been able to get them pregnant until they are 6 months. Not that they can't get pregnant sooner, but mines just haven't for whatever the reason
