I just helped a friend find round bales for $35 a bale which she is lucky to have found. Hay is $6 a 50 pound square here now. I paid $2.50 a bale for mine 2 months ago. :) You know what they say about the early bird.

Piper I would probably lose a leg trying to use that thing!!!

- I was scared of it at first, but kept thinking of the price of gas and the price to have my push mower serviced.

I want one of those old fashioned motorless pushmowers. with the blades that go like the toys toddlers push.

I have two - to be able to park one at my retired neighbors, who I help mow, and I like them!

My grandma has one. I think it is the coolest. And I could use it in the pasture without plugging things up in that.

I have one too and I've killed it by hitting sticks with it :( they are great exercise though.
They work best for me as long as I don't try to take it through anything really thick.
Hubby had a scythe when he lived on the family farm, the trick is to go slow and be very aware of where your body parts are. I personally want a sickle, easier for me to keep an eye on where everything is

The u shaped blade, of a sickle, scares me - I would be afraid of cutting off more than that plant. A sickle is a bit, too up close and personal, for me!

I have a push mower, was actually left at this house here, and had one as a kid. I even bought a dremel blade to sharpen the push mower. i hate mowing what grass I have left, the gas mower vibrates ans spits stuff at me.

Right now, Coastal Grass Hay is $10 for a square bale and I have paid $12 for a square bale....

Nope good old colorado. Alot of nice local farmers who are willing to sell just one at a time if you talk to them. It did take me about a week or so to find a farmer who had it tho.

the Texas climate, does not seem to support Timothy, I have bermuda/coastal, or alfalfa.
I normally see Timothy, in Calfornia and Canada, will have to add Colorado, too. :)

Well, 2 days ago i was able to find another farmer that was selling hay. I bought 21 small bales for the winter. I hope it last that long. It is alfafa and grass mix. Nice 2nd cut hay. I paid 4.80 a bale. .. Better than 8 dollars the last ones i picked up. .. Now i have it in a insulated vermen proof chicken coop. That i am no longer using. I stacked it to the roof. Which i gave me some room for my feed. I have some hay and straw on the floor. I just put it on the floor. I have a window open in the building. It will not mould in there. RIght. Or do i need something under them. It is a plywood foor.

I only give my rabbits hay once a day now unless it is a litter or a mom with a litter. Doing it this way i am saving on hay.

As long as the hay was dried properly, it should be fine. I store mine on plywood also. Some people prefer pallets for increased air circulation.

By the way, it is illegal here to store hay in an enclosed building because it is a fire hazard.

never go over $8 even for pure alfalfa. the again, 7 bales lasts me half a year at the rate i feed.

I'll never pay over $10 for a bale of timothy/orchard.
I try to buy from local farmers as much as possible, but a lot have a minimum purchase amount, and won't sell just one bale.

Emily

Wish I had a choice, I have to get it when I can, at whatever price I can, or do without.
