I have never been to a rabbit show and I was never in 4H as a child so I am completely clueless when it comes to rabbit shows. I looked at this site ( https://www.arba.net/district/8/michiganshows.html ) and see that there is a show in Evart, Michigan in April 2014. So normally at shows are all breeds allowed unless otherwise stated (for example it says "holland lop" only for one)? Are you allowed to sell rabbits at shows? Do you have to have to do certain things in order to be able to sell your rabbits?

Thanks!

Usually you have to have rabbits entered in the show.

How do you enter a rabbit in a show? How much do you have to do it in advance?
Most the time you can enter at the show for... $5.00 - $15.00 a rabbit if it is the same as the show I've gone to.

The show catalog will have entry forms, fees, and list closing dates for the show. Most of the ones I have attended close 3 days prior, and the entry fees are around $3. Sometimes DOS (Day of Show) entries are accepted. Large shows normally have closing dates that are further out than the small shows.

To enter, you need to list breed, age classification, variety (if applicable), sex, and ear number.

Does "Open" mean that its for everyone of all ages?

Yes. Children can enter in Open. Since there are very few exhibitors of my main breeds, I always enter my kid's rabbits in Open to meet the 3 exhibitor criteria for eligibility to win Legs.

Where do you get a show catalog?

On the link you provided, click on "Show Info". Otherwise, contact the Show Secretary by clicking on their name.

Sorry if these are really basic questions!

We all start somewhere. :)

However, I foresee questions about what happens at the show coming next, so here is my post regarding my first rabbit show:

Enjoy! :D

I looked at some of the "show info" and they say what the "sanctioned breeds" are. Does that mean that only breeds in the list are accepted at the show? I would be showing french angoras and I don't see them on any lists!

Sanctioned breeds are breeds that will earn handicap points for their owners with the National Breed Specialty Clubs, if the owner is a member. The breeds that are sanctioned were "usually" sanctioned in prior shows and had at least 10 rabbits of that breed entered. It does not mean that that is the only breed of rabbits that can be shown. If there is not a breed listing in the catalog, there is normally a "all other breed" category at the show in which the rabbit would be judged.

All recognizer breeds are accepted and usually any breeds that have a current COD for new breeds (lionheads for example. The sanctioned breeds mean that the exhibitors who are members of the breed associations receive sweepstakes points for standings in that breed. All rabbits regardless of being sanctioned or not show against their respective breeds for BOB (best of breed). Then all of the BOBs compete against each other for Best in show!
