This Post is a question about Sexing rabbits? Yes I thought I knew but it appears I don't so can someone please help me. I got my first two rabbits 3 mo. And I thought I sexed them as female but now I just don't know so is there some trick to this ? Type of Rabbit Flemish Giants. Thank you so much!

sexing rabbits. There's lots of pictures online to help ... even from day old.

Anyways, it's easy to make mistakes as some rabbits are slow maturing in that area.

Easiest I have found.
Wait until four weeks old.

Girls a slit, with two red lines on either side of the vent. Some people say girls are tacos.

Boys.. a tube, from the time they are very little boys are a tube. Some people say boys are burritos. The older they get the more obvious their ***** will become. Another trick is to look for two bald patches on either side of the vent. That is where their testes will be.

Sometimes boys can be a bit off if they are a split *****, but that isn't highly common except in some lines and really really should be bred out (as in cull the entire line to stop it).

At three months of age, flemish should be fairly easy to tell.

Mine all looked the same until I realized I was doing it wrong haha. You've probably seen some videos or read some instructions already, but I did that and I still wasn't doing it right. Although you do need to be gentle, you need to make sure you are pressing down enough on the sides of the genitals or it will not pop out all the way, and if it doesn't pop out far enough, then you cannot tell the *** clearly. Originally I thought all mine were males, then I discovered I had a female, and just a couple days ago, I thought one of the males was a female because I didn't press enough and his tube only poked out halfway.

The way I tell is that a male will have a lip all the way around the hole, like a circle, although sometimes it can look like an oval, and when it's oval, it acutally looks like a little slit but it will have a lip all the way around still. With the girls, when it's pushed out all the way, you will not see a complete rim, but rather the slit goes all the way down through the anterior part, so there is no lip at the very back of the genitals. But you need to make sure you are pushing it out far enough so that if there is a lip/rim in the back, it will pop out. I hope that makes sense.

I'll add that practice helps. If you aren't sure, just keep trying and comparing with photos or videos.

If possible get a second opinion. Easy for me since we are 3 breeders in my short road, I really like to have one look over my kits without telling what I think.

Second thing I do is watch their behaviour. When they mature, there are subtle differences. Like, when I let them out of the hutch, one dashes to a spot, does a sort burst of digging, and goes elsewhere - that's a male. Helped me correct errors in sexing more than once.

Currently I'm trying to figure out if the reaction to being pet is an indicator. That's just an idea right now, but my bucks put their head on the ground when being giving an extensive ear scratch, does- no, they keep a different posture. Can't verify it yet, didn't *** my current litter - but there are those two behaviours - will be interesting if those line up with ***.
