I went in this morning to feed my rabbits, and there is one of my does with a huge haystache and some fur plucked out running back and forth in her cage like she's looking for a place to nest. The thing is-- she hasn't been bred. She hasn't even been near one of the bucks, and the cages are a couple feet apart so I know they didn't breed through the wire either. What's her deal? Does she just need to get some?

Unless my husband is putting the bunnies together when I'm not around... :? He says he didn't, but he's a trixter sometimes...

I'd give her a box just in case... I haven't personally seen nesting behavior (especially fur plucking) unless babies were imminent. Once the litter arrives you can figure out who the responsible parties are!

Keep us posted!

I do believe that rabbits can have false pregnancies. That might be what is happening with your doe if your sure no buck can get to her.

I am 99.9% sure she was never near any of the bucks. I doubt my husband would bother my bunnies at all, let alone lie about putting any of them together. I do have nest boxes ready, though.

She seems to be over it already. She ate most of the hay she had piled up. Weird.

I've had Does do this before. On them it was a false pregnancy. I'd go to feed and there'd be a ring of fur in the corner of the cage. They do get over it quickly. On the bright side, she ought to be very receptive right now! :p Good luck! :clover: :)
