Hello everyone! I was wondering, where do you who make your own cages find 1"x1/2" wire with a good gauge? I have not been able to find any in middle of nowhere Iowa :x . Also, I would love anyone's favorite cage design. Translate: I am trying to come up with better and bigger cages for my bunnies and want them to turn out well. Thanks! :pancake:

Tractor supply, rural king, or even some Ace Hardware stores sell it.
At tractor supply, 1/2 by 1, a roll 30 inches by 25 foot runs around $20-$25

At my tractor supply the 1/2 x 1"x 30" is 10 ft for $19.99

My feed store was able to order me a roll of 1x2x36 100ft long for $135. It was made in the usa wire so I'm hoping it will last a long time.
At one of the local hardware stores I was able to get a roll of 1/2x1x24 that was 25ft long for $35 It was in stock so I grabbed it.

Just call around to hardware and feed stores and see what you can find. Alot of places can order it even if it's not something they normally carry.

I got mine from Lowes for about $18. {1/2 x 1"x 30" is 10 ft }They never seem to run out. The others in my area are always sold out. It had a green label.

I couldn't find the gauge on TSC floor wire packaging. Anyone know what it is?

I'm short about two big growout pens because I bred everyone, assuming a few wouldn't take.

Of course... EVERYONE took...and everyone had a pretty big litter(avg 8 )...and I haven't really lost any kits...

I was worried shipping wire would be WAY expensive. Has anyone ever shipped any?

Shipping was VERY reasonable when I bought my cages from them last year....I'm kinda scared to order this time of year though. Due to the spring rush and the increasing popularity of keeping meat rabbits in the US...

Ahh, I was meaning shipping a roll of wire not the cages. I did some figuring and I made my cage stacks 5-36x24x24 2-54x24x24 and 2-36x30x24 for $24 a cage. I believe I have enough wire left over to build one more 36x30x24. That includes wire and j-clips. As much as I'd love to buy pre built cages but after shipping they are more than twice that.

So, for now I'll just stick with the 16 gauge floor wire. If I ever get a wild "hare" to make a bunch of cages I'll look into freight shipping.

You can't beat Klubertanz for the quality of their wire.

Get Galvanized After Welding (GAW) 14 gauge.

With Klubertanz, you can order by the roll or by the foot.

I do not recommend TSC or anyone else, really.

Ditto. If you're serious into rabbit raising, don't waste your money on anything less 14 gauge. Klubertanz is definitely The BEST and very nice to deal with. I definitely wouldn't waste any money on wire at TS.

I've not ordered wire by the roll from them, but I've been very happy with my cages from Bass Equipment. They ship promptly, which I hear that Klubertanz sometimes doesn't do... You might also try to make it to a rabbit show that has a vendor showing up. If you contact them ahead of time, they'll often bring you what you'd like, and don't charge shipping.

I agree that Klubertanz is not the fastest - but I do believe they are the best.

I also order stuff from Bass. I get all my hardware for pens from them. They're great to work with, ship quickly, you can order online, and freight from southern MO to KC isn't bad.

Klubertanz is more mom-and-pop and it's reflected in the slower pace, less automation, and more personal service. They will work with you one-on-one to minimize the freight cost. They'll also work with you on special orders - like pre-cut 14-guage floor panels. Or figuring out a way to get the wire shipped UPS vs. motor freight.

But do figure an order from Klubertanz will arrive in weeks rather than days. In spite of that, I wouldn't order wire from anyone else.

Have you checked Lowe's? I was not able to find 1x2 16ga wire and had to settle with 1x1 16ga for the walls. But they do carry 1x1/2 14ga wire. Menards on the other hand doesn't care any rabbit cage wire. It's all too soft. Actually the one in town doesn't carry any rabbit stuff. I love Lowe's.

-- Wed Mar 18, 2015 7:12 pm --

Lowe's just told me that they were going to stop selling 14ga 1x1/2 wire. Going to 16ga like everyone else in the area. Someone is getting emails for the rest of time.
