This is a question for people that have raised rabbits in wire-bottom cages and also in a colony on solid floors: do colony-raised kits have more or less disease than kits raised on wire? My thought being: kits exposed to more kinds of bacteria, in a colony, might be more resistant to disease at 8-12 weeks. I don't have an opinion, just wondering.
It might also be true that colony-raised rabbits get more kinds of food than rabbits raised in cages---but I don't know if that is right, either.
In other words, is it better in the long run to raise rabbits that have been grown with more sterile conditions, or less sterile conditions? Not that we would raise rabbits in filth, but colonies are obviously less sterile than wire cages.
