You are not dumb!
Meat is a source, a very common source, of protein !
But herbivores of all shapes and sizes still need protein - and they get it from feeding on legumes and grasses and such.
Just like calcium - most people assume it only comes from milk, but no species aside from humans drink milk past weaning age, but none have problems with lacking calcium - because it's present in plants !
Who knew !
