So my main breeding doe, Penelope, had her 2nd litter the other day, on the 21st. It had gone well, only lost 1 in the next day. But then Penelope had got a hold of and flung her nesting box, and all of her babies came flying out.

I hadn’t noticed this until my mother had said something about it. She saw it first-hand. We quickly looked for them and picked them back up to place them back in the nest. It was extremely risky because the babies really blended in with the fall leaves on the ground, and our meat chickens are ravid about anything falling on the ground. But mainly because of the leaves. I had to find this out the hard way.. I accidentally stepped on one the babies head, thought she was okay until I felt her head, her skull was in pieces inside of her. Somehow she was still alive.. I had to cull her. I knew it was the right thing to do. She was going to suffer if I didn’t.

So that was a mere consequence of what Penelope did. I dont know what to do to keep her from doing that. I decide to keep her babies out of her cage for the daytime, and put them back in at night. We bought a heating pad for them so they stay warm. And when we put them back with Mama I put small bricks on each corner to weight the box down.

Im a bit unsure of what to do, so I just wanted to ask you guys to make sure this is a good thing Im doing. She still fed her babies last night, didnt hurt them or anything.

Update, I checked on her and her babies and almost all of them are missing, 4 still intact but dead, and the decapitated head of 1 remains. What the hell happened? :(
