6 kits in a cage with mother. Mother runs around outside cage 12 hours a day but keeps returning to nurse same time daily. Should I let her continue till she stops on her own?

I have a doe that will nurse until she have kits (well, rabbits by then) with her, so I move/wean them around 2-3 months. But she is in a great sheap no matter what.

I think my record was Mucky nursing Sushi for 4.5 months.

I watched them closely, and as soon as the boy bits began to descend those two were separated.

It doesn't really matter how long the females are allowed with their dam, but males are usually separated by 12 weeks to prevent re-breeding.

If the babies are already three months old, any bucks should really already separated from their mother/sisters or you might end up with a ton more babies. I dunno about larger breeds (as I don't know what breeds these are) but my Holland babies, I've noticed that the little bucks start "practicing" at about 8 weeks old. So I never risk it and always have the brothers separated by then.

I tend to separate everyone out by about 8 weeks to avoid scuffling and to give mama a rest. I let one litter go a little closer to 12 weeks and one particularly neurotic little doe began overgrooming her dam and siblings so vigorously that, when I came back to feed later that day, I noticed that they were missing fur in spots. I know that's not likely to be a common thing - I have the weirdest luck! - but I immediately regretted not separating them sooner.
