Do wild rabbits change color or is this rabbit a pet?

Hello,

A few people told me this rabbit is someone's pet. I thought it was one of the wild rabbits that were nesting under my shed in NJ. However, the rabbits nesting under my shed were dark. This rabbit looks like it's changing color from dark to light. Is this what is known as molting? It's getting colder here now so I am not sure if it's changing color for that reason.

Might this be a wild rabbit that got lighter? Or, is it indeed someone's pet? It will let me get closer to it than a wild rabbit will.

where are you located? In Canada, our hares change colour with the seasons, White for snow, Brown for bush.

If that one's domestic, I wouldn't know what color to call it.

It might be a snowshoe hare, they do change color. Your general location would help with identification.
