So, giving this DE thing a go. Got the dog, the cats and most of the rabbits done... but I'm not sure about Alaska. Can she be done while she's nursing, or should I wean the kits before doing her? Kits are 5wks, so no biggie with weaning. Can I do the kits?

DE is tiny sharp little silica shells from sea creatures. It is not biodegradable and slices and dices intestinal worms and the soft joint areas of insects.

I would worry about the shards getting in the eyes of the kits when they try and nuzzle with mom and I wouldn't put it on rabbits in a group or colony setting for the same reason.

But that's just me :D

I hadn't thought of the issues the wise Dood brought up, but now that I've read them, I agree.

If the cages have drop pans, I might sprinkle some in there.

It is not safe for lungs, either -- yours or theirs. That's actually the reason I switched from DE to Ivermectin in a pregnant doe.

If they were mine, I'd wean the kits and then DE them all. There is still a risk to eyes and lungs, because they snuggle with each other. It's not quite like all being smushed up under Mom, usually, though.
