My scanner wasn't working, so I had to go ahead and take a picture of the floor-plan with my camera.

Before building the ramps and the bucks cages, I would like to receive an approval from the colony-experts. Would this particular layout work?

The rabbits will be housed on my 9.8 ft x 11.6 ft balcony. Everything but 6 inches, near the railing, is covered by a roof... Meaning only the 9.8 ft x 6 inches of space gets rained and snowed on. The flooring is cement, therefore burrowing underground isn't an option for the does. The bucks cages and the nest boxes are raised off the ground. There are plenty of safe, edible plants available in the warmer seasons, plus junipers are available year-round to provide protection from wind.

I am picking up four does and two bucks this Saturday. The bucks will be kept in 3.5 x 2 ft cages. The balcony floorspace allows 28.42 sqft per doe.

I will only be breeding two does at a time, but have 3 nest boxes just in case. Are the nest boxes too close together?

Does anyone have pictures of their setup, that I can get some inspiration off of?

Is there anything you would change/add/remove to my layout?

I apologize if you're unable to read my writing.

P.S. The weaned kits are separated by gender, into pens in the room next to the balcony, until their sold.

I love that drawing. I have learned it's so helpful to map out things before starting a project.

Nice drawing, and your penmanship looks good to me!

Are the ramps for letting the bucks come and go from their cages? What is the one going between the buck cages for?

The bucks will remain in their cages, except for when I let them out to run around the field. I have two junior does that I don't want to breed until they're older, keeping them caged is the only way to solve unwanted pregnancies. The ramps are for the does to be able to climb on top of the bucks cages. I'm thinking about covering the roof of the cages with safe-to-chew wood planks, so that the bucks won't harass the does when their climbing. The one in between is too allow them to go from one cage roof to the other.

My previous rabbits appreciated multiple levels and it was the only way I could think of fitting a second level in. Originally I had planned a 4 level rabbit house, but I can't seem to fit it in anywhere - without removing a much-needed nest box or having it sit in the rain.

__________ Sat Apr 14, 2012 10:31 am __________

Well, turns out I have to scratch the entire idea. Originally, I had thought I would be moving out from my mother's home next summer but I've found an offer on a home which I cannot refuse. Moving next month. :) :) :) 100 acres here I come!
