skysthelimit Don't you have Standard Rex bunnies? And Now I am hearing the words Chocolate and lilac as well???????

I may be begging to come for a visit and get a lilac buck from you in the future. I want a lilac Otter so very much!!!

Yes I have Standards (and minis). Lilac Otter should be interesting. Perhaps something I'll look into. I would like some Chocolate Otters myself. I am so considering some Silver martins, I have the perfect chin doe and otter buck.

Silver martin are wonderful as well. I am hoping to find a standard Otter in September. I hope I hope I hope.....

Supposedly, the doe I had planned to cull carries chocolate. I am going to get two does, and maybe a castor with them. The pict she had on CL looked more like amber, and she said as much. she said she would send me more picts and I'll look at the pedigree. I am wondering if this is the same lady I got the first Rexes from last year. She had some nice reds.

I plan to breed the chocos to my blue buck.
If i am not mistaken amber is the same as chocolate agouti which yes will produce chocolates. Congrats on your new rabbits!

I think so, this where I go into unstudied territory-- amber is chocolate agouti and red is non extension agouti? I always get those two confused.

Oooh, I LOVE dilute Chocolate. I don't know the name though...but sooooo pretty. :) Will that be what you get, Chocolate to the blue? :)

It should get me lilac. I think I now would have all the genes to get lynx as well.

Lilac is the dilute of Chocolate....and Blue is the dilute of Black. I am not sure what you will get breeding Chocolate to Blue, but I am going to try it as well, since I brought back a lovely Blue Rex doe from my Sistah's place.

Breeding chocolate to blue will get you the dilute gene but probably only show blues and blacks in the first generation, unless that blue carries chocolate already then its just a game of 'chance" what genes pair up in each kit!

So I took a look at the pedigree, and there is lots of lilac in it!!!!!

A bunch of lilacs were bred to blacks and that's how thee blues got here :) So I hope they carry chocolate. That would make this go faster.

__________ Tue Jul 31, 2012 12:28 pm __________

Now that should be fairly easy, otters are very popular around here, but only the blacks. Most people don't seem to have the other colors. It seems to me that most Rex breeders have the basic self colors, I just seem to have a lot of dilute in my barn, was seriously thinking of calling it Blue Rex Rabbitry for a while. Almost every rabbit here is a dilute or carries dilute, except the chins and the otters.

I figured it will be fairly easy to come up with my self does. Its the lilac otter buck that may be difficult to find. But I have a plan and without him The plan wont get far. May have to go with a different color otter to start with and breed for my own lilac otter buck. :/

Let the shopping begin!!!!!!! :D

Yeah it feels like I'm baking a cake from scratch. But now I have all of the ingredients to make almost every color Rex possible, except sables and cals. Another generation or two and I will be able to produce all 16 varieties.

Got the chocolate doe, and two reds, a doe and a buck. Turns out it's still the same lines though. Now I need to learn how to breed them.

Ummm, you take the doe out of the cage and place her in with the buck, stand back for about 5 minutes, then put her back in her cage??? :D Aww, I couldn't resist when you dangle that "tail" so conveniently LOLOLOLOL Can't wait to see baby picts!!!

LOL.

I am a bit concerned about loosing that red to the dominant extension genes. Since the pedigrees are exactly the same as the ones I have here, I must have that gene in my herd already, but have not put the right combo together to express it. And I know I have the choco gene, but even breeding dam to son didn't get me any.

I may have a chocolate Otter pair coming from MN. They are kits and will be culled if not quality so I am waiting to see how it goes. They are from the same lilac buck and one black doe and one chocolate doe. Fingers crossed here for sure!!!

__________ Tue Aug 07, 2012 3:21 pm __________

I may have to drive there in September but it is a shorter trip than California. :p
