You've chosen a black pearl as your example, and it's the one that you can see the difference. In the chinchilla example, chin c(chd) doesn't affect the black color, so the face is a true black color. But sable c(chl) reduces the intensity of the black, turning it sepia. So the sable pearl has a sepia face.
